As Commissioners, Rick and I, do not usually get involved with trade negotiations, but there are times when it becomes necessary to lend a helping hand. Some of you may have been following the events of the day involving

. During the day, in a meeting of the minds, the following compromise was brokered to benefit all parties and maintain the integrity of the league. Here's what is being proposed for consideration by the Trade Committee:
have placed Lucas Duda on waivers.
has made a waiver claim, and as the player involved belongs to an AL team,
will win the right to negotiate for Duda on the basis of W-L record. In the interest of expediency,
renounces the rights to the following player and he becomes part of the
roster:
CI Duda, Lucas, $15m (2020)
Total salary absorbed: $15.0m
already got:
OF Pence, Hunter, $14m (2017)
SP Bailey, Homer, $5m (2017)
Total salary absorbed: $19.0m
With the
renouncing their rights to Duda,
is taking on $45.0m in additional salary ($15.0m for 2019-2021). As a result,
and
agree to the following trade:
Yankees trade:
MI White, Mikey, $0.5m (P-n/a)
SP Driver, Dustin, $0.5m (P-n/a)
SP Kapriellian, James, $0.5m (P-n/a)
SP Moore, Matt, $4m (2018) - Already passed through waivers
MI Escobar, Alcides, $6m (2017) - Already passed through waivers
Astros trade:
SP Medlen, Kris, $4m (2017) - Already passed through waivers
RP Neshek, Pat, $1m (2017) - Already passed through waivers
This end result of this series of transactions would mean:
absorbs: $25.0m (gets three desired prospects)
absorbs: $24.0m (gets players originally desired)--reduces cap figure to $2.5m
Again, this was brokered in the interest of insuring the integrity of the league by preventing the unnecessary dropping of key players into the free agent pool to make up the necessary needed cap space.
