SP Johnny Cueto
Extend for 3 yrs 2019 at a salary of $14.5m per year
His highest finish was 5th in 2016 which results in a salary of $14.5M

His highest finish was 46th in 2015 which results in a salary of $5.5m

RP Joe Blanton

His highest finish was 29th in 2015 which results in a salary of $2M

We realize that you, and several other new GMs, are at a bit of a disadvantage because you took over teams after some crucial deadlines, but these players cannot be extended because they were all on regular contracts that expired at the end of the season.

We know that sometimes things seem a bit confusing, but if you look the "2016-2017 Important Dates", you will see that the off-season began on 9/26/16, and at that point all players on expiring contracts became free agents--which includes all the players listed above.  The only players who can still be extended are prospects on (P-2016) contracts.

We realize the frustration that sometimes comes out of these situations and we have, at times, been criticized for being to rigid--I mean "why can't we bend the rule just this once?"  But we hope you understand that we must adhere to our established rules because they provide the stability needed for on-going success.  You will still have an opportunity to re-acquire all of these players during our free agent period.  Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Understood and thanks for the explanation. .
As you say that does put the new GMs at a bit of a disadvantage as clearly the departing GMs who have been replaced may not have been as concerned with the roster for next season . Looks like there will be some very good players in FA !

At least the exercise gave me some practice in working on extensions and the process so that I will be ready for the end of next season !

  • Jwalkerjr88: I once traded a full draft class 1-7, an additional 1st, 3 offensive flyer players for what player you might ask?
  • Jwalkerjr88: WR Jalen Reagor lmaaooo
  • Jwalkerjr88: And won my first chip that same season. Reagor starting in the flex scoring 9 points
    Today at 10:14:39 PM
  • jmntl82: How did the other team finish?
  • Jwalkerjr88: It was dallas. I think he missed the playoffs that year. Then used the draft picks on the 2021 class. Every pick was the 32nd pick (dont remembee what the other 1st became)
  • Jwalkerjr88: Idk if anyone remembers the 2021 class but it was weak on offense outside or the top 10-15. I dont regret the deal just learned and move on. As long as you have assets, you can mold your build how you want. Picks are usually the most valuable asset because most gms want in on a draft.
  • Jwalkerjr88: The results of that draft class is here [link]
  • Jwalkerjr88: Every 32 overall pick dallas makes in each round came from that trade
    Today at 10:20:54 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: The 2024 and 2025 classes look much more promising than that one lol
    Today at 10:22:06 PM
  • BayAreaBallers: 2021 draft class was my worst class as a NFL Live gm. my 2022 and 2023 were better
    Today at 10:32:52 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: I think it was the worst for most of us. It was a bad class overall. The top was amazing tho
    Today at 10:42:05 PM
  • jimw: Etienne is amazing. He was near the top of that draft lol
    Today at 11:18:42 PM
  • Brent: I got Nico Collins at 26.
  • Daddy: You can use his bat n glove.
