Brewcrew, what is your issue with the newly proposed rule outside of the fact that you don't like this changing at this point in the season? If this rule had been there from the start would you have had an issue with it?
It seems to most people that have responded that it seems like an better system than what we were running under in the first place. I am generally not fond of changing rules on the fly, but I think there was an issue here than can be exploited to an extent. In addition to the old rule having a loophole, it also created a problem where every time we had a trade like this (2 being every time), it created friction, some by myself for sure, because I didn't like it for one. I think this new proposal feels more like the real system they use, which is part of what this league is trying to recreate. You are certainly welcome to disagree with the change, I would bet out of 20 people you are not alone, but I don't think this is an issue that should be a deal breaker for teams. If there are issues that you have with this specific setup, outside of timing, please state what it is. I am a firm believer in that when you do go about changing a rule after the initial start of the league, that you should have a certain level of buy in from the teams in the league. Now you may be the one in a 19-1 ruling or you might be 1 of 10. I dont' know, but it seems most people that have chimed in are in favor. I just want to make sure from here on out, we keep this conversation constructive by all parties. 1126

I think the 50% way is the best way to go.

I think this is more like how it should have been in the first place. We are making a correction to try and make the league better. 2 trades went through under the old rules and now there is a new way to handle it, that more mimics what the NHL does. I think this looks good. Great idea guys. 1128

I do like the part about picking up the other half of the contract.

I am certainly open to something like Gypsie or snugerud have suggested if we can get the details in a way that most people think are fair. I think to make this a great league, its good to realize that there are gray areas that we may need to clean up if possible so that things like this don't leave owners with a bad taste in their mouth.
This is nothing against the teams that are doing these types of trades or who did them before, its done within the rules that are currently there, but just because we have a rule now, it doesn't mean that we shouldn't look at it closer and see if we can do this a better way. Maybe its just a small tweak so that there is a more distinct disadvantage to doing this type of thing. We can't make things perfect, but I just would like to make the league as fun and as realistic as possible. One of the reasons to start with the real contracts is so that you have to manage within the similar constraints that the NHL team does. 1130

I hate these "bid on my dropped player" crap trades.
Just replace me on the TC now, because I am not interested in dealing with approving this garbage or arguing over them anymore. I think we tried to make this league as realistic as possible, and this is just a nice loophole to circumvent bad contracts, that I don't feel is very realistic. I don't if know that there is a better way to handle it, but I don't want to sit here and have to argue one side or the other. |
