Franchise GM: GM & Team News / Red Sox front office is open
« on: January 27, 2010, 02:15:23 PM »
FYI to everyone that Eric Kelley, Red Sox GM, has decided to resign to due lack of time to commit to the league.  With that said, as per any opening, GMs from the 2009 year have an opportunity to take this position.  I'll keep this opportunity open for a day or so until I hit up the waiting list.

Franchise GM: Invalid Transactions / Free Agency starts on the 15th!
« on: January 12, 2010, 07:45:00 PM »
Just in time for the start of FA, the RC has passed a new ruling on how bids work...

Quote
FA Bidding
Bids are in format of total contract value. Note that the number of years does not need to be listed until the bid is won.  The resulting salary will be the final bid divided by number of years, rounded to the nearest $500k.  The winning bid will be the highest total contract amount.  If the bid is less than $20m then contract can be valued in multiples of $500k.  If it is $20m or more then it must be in multiples of $1m.

Each player is auctioned in a separate thread at the MLFB website that may be started by anyone.  There is no limit to the number of players that can be auctioned at one time or the number of bids for a player.  A bid on a player is considered final when it has been open for 72 hours.

The part in RED is something I added because a $500k raise of the bid on $20+m means nothing when it comes time to the contract.

Bid responsibly GMs!  :BORAS:  :win:  :bacon:

Franchise GM: GM & Team News / What's New for Franchise GM this week
« on: January 11, 2010, 05:55:25 PM »
I have been pretty busy with MLFB as a whole, other leagues such as College Ball, The Show, and Donruss Mexpo, but I have also been maintaining Franchise GM until Dan Wood steps in as Commissioner.  What I will be doing this week is the following:

  • I will be outlining the 2010 staff with an Executive, Rules, and Trade committee
  • You will immediately notice the new logos.  These are based off of the smileys.  I will be redoing these to make them look better.  The giant matrices in the franchise leagues are too big for some people's screen sizes, and I feel this way will also be easier to organize and change for the future.
  • Hopefully, I will be able to hand off the Commissioner duties and declare a Trade committee.

Franchise GM: GM & Team News / Nats GM job open!
« on: January 06, 2010, 07:42:58 PM »
My buddy Scott has decided to resign from the league due to too many fantasy leagues.  He hasn't had the time and focus for the Nationals.  Before I go to the waiting list, it is customary to ask if any of the GMs who have been with their existing team for one season would like the Nationals job.

Franchise GM: FGM Commissioner News & Tid Bits / FA bidding
« on: January 06, 2010, 12:59:20 PM »
My original designs for this league had some simpler rules.  I never expected the league to become this good or MLFB to grow as much as it did.  With that said, I think the FA bidding process should be reviewed, specifically for the number of years in the contract.  Currently, the winner of the bid gets to choose the years.  However, this is flawed big time.

Wouldn't Matt Holliday go for a 5-year deal paying $18m a year versus a 2-year paying $23m a year?  I wish there was some way we could fix this before free agency started, but I suppose it is a bit late.  If you have any ideas, feel free to shoot them...

Franchise GM: Invalid Transactions / EDR transfers again?
« on: January 05, 2010, 05:04:11 PM »
M.J. posed this proposal in the Mariners EDR transfer...

Quote
Colby, When will EDR re-open?  We had discussed that if you're able to acquire a team's draft pick that previously wasn't available in the free agent pool you could move him to EDR.  Would it be possible to re-open EDR during free agency and keep it open, season-long?  That would be my recommendation.

I am initially against it as it adds a confusing wrinkle.  I would like to see only upward movement from the EDR from this point out.

Franchise GM: Invalid Transactions / Glitch in Rosters
« on: January 05, 2010, 09:56:40 AM »
I noticed a glitch in my spreadsheet (only pertains to Franchise GM Rick).  The salary and player counts worked correctly, but not all of the players and cash moves were displayed.  All rosters should look good per the next updates.  I noticed this when Dan Wood pointed out that Adam Lind wasn't on his roster.
