as far as i know last 2 real nhl draft players are protected given that the GM provides the round and pick.

In terms of Chicago, i believe Myers takes up one of the 5 minor spots regardless of draft year/contract

No the protection is for our last two drafts not the real NHL drafts.

do i need to sent the player to minors first before making him part on my minors protection,??

Yep you can protect any italicized player as a minor leaguer if you want, doesn't have to be in minors.

For the expansion draft I assume we just have to look through the players from the "unprotected list" and choose from there, correct? Like they won't be available in FanTrax will they so we can toggle with that to see points and position etc?

Using the "Watch Player" function might be helpful.  Maybe go through the rosters and flag anyone who interests you.

Good idea pal.... I was wondering how's I was going to keep it all straight ESP with the expansion rules kept in mind

This would be the best way possible I believe.

You don't have to select only from the unprotected lists, you can select anyone available as well as long as they have a contact going into next season.
