FGM 2020 Playoff Overview
« on: August 23, 2020, 10:39:42 PM »
First, let me apologize and say that we have two more weeks of regular season play (I erroneously stated we had only one more week in a league wide e-mail).  That said, I will post some playoff projections beginning this week as we wind down the season.

Remember, we will have 3 Division Winners and 3 Wild Card Qualifiers.  The  top 2 Division Winners will have a 1st Round Bye (#1 & #2 Seeds).  The remaining Division Winner will be the #3 Seed.  The 3 Wild Card teams will be seeded #4, #5, & #6.  The 1st Round will have #6 vs #3 and #4 vs #5.

More to come.....

We have 5 weeks in the books, and with 2 weeks to go, here is what the playoff scenario looks like.

The :COL: lead the West Division with a record of 39-3.  Based on points scored, the :COL: are currently the #1 Seed.  The current #2 Seed, with a record of 39-3, is the Central Division leader :CHC:  The :NYY: are leading the East Division with a record of 37-5.  The :NYY: are currently the #3 seed.

As mentioned before, this year we will have 3 Wild Card teams. That means the teams with the best records amongst the remaining 27 teams will qualify for the playoffs.  Right now, that would be the :CHW: @ 35-7, the :PHI: @ 33-9, and the :TB: @ 32-10.

With two weeks of the regular season to go, there are several teams still in contention.  The :STL: @ 31-11 and the :LAD: @ 30-12 have the best shot to sneak into the playoffs at this point, with the :MIL: and the :NYM: still breathing at 29-13.

The next two weeks will be interesting to say the least.

As we enter the last week of the regular season schedule, here are teams in pursuit of a playoff spot.  The first three are Division leaders.  From the look of things, at this point, as outlined before, the top two teams, the Rockies and the Cubs would receive a 1st Round bye.

Even though the Yankees and White Sox have identical records, the Yankees, as a Division Leader, would be the #3 seed.

If these teams hold their places, and the playoffs started tomorrow, the matchups would be:

#6 Seed vs. #3 Seed
#5 Seed vs. #4 Seed

The Rays, Dodgers, and Angels are on the outside looking in, and their windows are pretty small.  Stay tuned, we have one week to go.

1  Colorado Rockies  48-3 - #1 Seed
2  Chicago Cubs  46-5 - #2 Seed
3  New York Yankees  43-8 - #3 Seed
4  Chicago White Sox 43-8 - #4 Seed
5  Philadelphia Phillies 42-9 - #5 Seed
6  St. Louis Cardinals 40-11 - #6 Seed

7  Tampa Bay Rays 37-14
8  Los Angeles Dodgers 37-14
9  Los Angeles Angels 36-15

Now the playoffs begin:

1  Colorado Rockies  56 - 4 - #1 Seed
2  Chicago Cubs  54 - 6 - #2 Seed
3  Philadelphia Phillies 51 - 9 - #3 Seed
4  New York Yankees  50 - 10 - #4 Seed
5  St. Louis Cardinals 49 -11 - #5 Seed
6  Chicago White Sox 48 - 12 #6 Seed

Rockies and Cubs have byes

Wild Card Week
White Sox vs. Phillies
Cardinals vs. Yankees

Some things to ponder as the playoffs begin:

The :COL: and the :CHC: have been rolling along and dominating their respective divisions.  Based on their records, both of them seem poised to continue that dominance until they meet in the World Series...but, as we know, weird things happen and there are many factors that could upend such a matchup.

Three teams entering the playoffs are from the Central Division:  :CHC: :CHW: & :STL: , two are from the Eastern Division:  :PHI: & :NYY: , and one is from the Western Division:  :COL:

Now there are a variety of things one might say about how the season played out, so here are a few things to think about.  Of the six teams making the playoffs, the :PHI: are the only one that was surging as the regular season ended.  The :NYY: were leading the Eastern Division from the start of the season, and for awhile, it looked like the :PHI: might miss the playoffs.  But the :PHI: kept moving up the standings, week by week, and moved past the :NYY: in the final week.

Our defending champion :LAA: did not make the playoffs, but it should be noted, with the Western Division having more teams above .500 than any other division, the :LAA: did finish #8 overall and just missed the post-season.  With that, for the first time in FGM history, we had a winless team in the :ATL: . In spite of the fact there was a team personnel transfer between the :ATL: & :TOR:, :ATL: was destined to go 0 and forever.

Much should be said about the :STL: too.  With their $45.0m man Mike Trout, the :STL: have returned to the playoffs after a few years away.  The :CHW: are again in the playoffs, true and steady, as they look to be the Cinderella team of 2020.  And then there is the :NYY:, a team rebuilt through a massive amounts of trades and high priced free agent acquisitions.  Like there MLB counterparts, they are looking to regain that :NYY: mystic that has been missing.

As the week moves on, there will be updates on the progress of the matchups.  Good Luck to all!

Play Ball!

The stage is set for the 2nd Round of the FGM Playoffs.

The :NYY: had a big week, as they defeated the :STL: by a score of 2018 - 992.  Now the Bronx Bombers take their show to Colorado where they will battle the #1 Seed :COL:.  Should be a great matchup!

This past week saw a spirited series between the :CHW: & :PHI:. The :CHW: jumped out to an early lead, but the :PHI: battled back throughout the week.. In the end, the #6 Seed :CHW: will be advancing to the next round as they “upset” the :PHI:, The :CHW: will battle their Windy City rival, the :CHC:

As always, we will look forward to another week of spirited play to see who will meet in the 2020 Franchise GM World Series.  Congratulations to the GMs of the :STL: & the :PHI: for jobs well done, you both have a lot to be proud of.

Good luck to the four remaining teams.

The FGM World Series matchup has been set.  The #1 Seed :COL: and the #2 Seed :CHC: will battle it out for the FGM Championship.

The :CHW: had a good run.  As the #6 Seed, the :CHW: won their Wild Card matchup, but their season ended at the hands of the :CHC:.  They stayed close, but over the weekend, the :CHC: pulled away to advance to the World Series.

In the other matchup, the #3 Seed :NYY: were basically doubled up by the :COL:  The :COL: pulled away early in the week and never looked back.  Seven years ago, as the GM of the :STL:, the :COL: GM was an FGM Champion.  Can he do it again with a different team?  We will soon find out.

The FGM World Series should be a good and in seven days, we will see who emerges as the 2020 Champion.

Sometimes the Fantasy Gods act in peculiar ways.  One week your team tears it up and the next week your team goes underground.  It’s what makes us love this game of fantasy baseball.

This past week the :CHC: were able to lead wire to wire as they defeated the :COL:.  Congratulations to the :CHC: ... the 2020 FGM Champions!

Jayden Daniels, who they picked with the 2nd overall pick in the 2024 Draft, may soon be banned from the NFL after violating a very important rule.   In the 2024 NFL Draft, several teams were in need of a top quarterback to bolster their offenses. With the 2nd overall pick, the Commanders decided to select Jayden Daniels, one of the best prospects at the position.  Daniels had a remarkable path through LSU, even breaking some of Joe Burrow’s records. I mean, he put it out there, so it’s like I can’t say he cap.”  Keyshawn Johnson, host of the podcast, asked Daniels about the bet.
