It's the last year of his contract and I can't see extending him at 5m when we already have Chad Johnson, Mike Smith & Bobrovsky eating up a lot of my cap and hopefully starts in goal. Figured it would be good to get an asset for him and free up more cap to make another move to add a player later on.

The Hurricanes have traded:
Jean-Gabriel Pageau, $0.3m (2014-2017-EL)
Christopher Tanev, $1.0m (2015-2017)
to the Blues for:
Vladislav Namestnikov, $2.3m (2016-2019)
The Hurricanes are in rebuild mode and like the potential of this player and the fact that he's signed through 2019. Tanev and Pageau were not in Carolina's plans beyond 2017.
The Blues need Cap relief and more depth on D in pursuit of a cup, which they accomplish in this trade.
