San Diego Padres History :SD:

2021: 5th in NL West (33-129)
The :SD: fell off the face of the fantasy cliff in 2021.  The :SD: took an aggressive approach during free agency, but many of those acquisitions simply didn?t produce.  Coupled with that, the team was virtually abandoned on Opening Day and the :SD: suffered as a result.  A decision was made to reinstate the former GM dennymc23, in hopes of giving the :SD: a chance to get back on a competitive path in the NL West.

2020: 10th in NL West Division  (8-52)
The :SD: had a disappointing, if not disastrous, season. Its lineup was simply not competitive and there was no attempt to improve the team through free agency.  With all that, management went on a hiatus and the team was left in a fantasy void for much of the season.

2019: 4th in NL West (101-61)
Although the :SD: improved their league record in 2019, and were very competitive throughout the season, they fell to 4th in the NL West.  They slipped out of playoff contention in the final weeks of the season, but nonetheless, they were in it right to the end.  GM dennymcc23 has some tough roster decisions as some of his most productive players are on expiring contracts, and with a limited amount of available cap, he will have to decide who to keep and who to let go.  If the team is kept in tact, they will sure to be in the mix for the NL West division title in 2020.

2018: 3rd in NL West, Wild Card Team (100-62)
The :SD: continued their ascent in the NL West and made the playoffs for the first time as a Wild Card team.  The :SD: roster is filled with young talent, Anthony Rizzo, Trea Turner, Andrew Benintendi and has a capable veteran pitching staff.  The :SD: defeated :SF: in their first every playoff game and advanced to the NLDS.  However, the upstart :SD: could not stand up to the firepower of the eventual FGM World Series Champion :PHI: and lost in the NLDS:  The future of the :SD: is certainly bright and they will be a formidable opponent in the NL West for years to come.

2017: 3rd in NL West (84-78)
The Padres enjoyed their best season in FGM, finishing over .500 for the second year in a row.  The Friars enjoyed their continuing success behind the development of OF Andrew Benintendi, CI Anthony Rizzo, and a host of other young, talented players.  The pitching staff was led by SPs Aaron Nola and Charlie Morton.  The future is bright for the Padres with a roster of emerging talent.

2016: 3rd in NL West (82-74)
The Padres finally enjoyed a season with a positive record by finishing 8 games over .500.  After years of careful drafting, the team is finally starting to see some of their talent develop into productive players.

2015: 5th in NL West (31-59)
The Padres continue to struggle as they draft and hope that their youngsters develop and make the team competitive.  With a limited amount of cap, the Padres have sought to be patient as they await their team to come of age.

2014: 5th in NL West (31-110)
Another last place finish for the Padres would have some GMs questioning their abilities.  But the plan has been to draft and develop, so the fruits of that strategy won't be evident for a few seasons.

2013: 5th in NL West (32-109)
Perserverence is the key to the Padres as the team improved it's record by 5 games, but still found itself in the NL West cellar.  Slow but steady is all one can hope for as the Padres have yet to field a competitive team.

2012: 5th in NL West (27-133)
Despite the GM's comments in the newspaper that San Diego is turning itself around, the team actually played worse in 2012.  The Padres finished with the worst record in the National League.  The bright spot was their pitching led by Mat Latos and Dillon Gee.  The team's offensive woes are a major issue that needs to be addressed in the off-season.

2011: 4th in NL West (65-97)
The Padres continued to be an NL West bottom feeder, but luckily beat out the Giants in H2H competition for the 4th place tiebreaker.  San Diego had very few assets to utilize.  One of Chris' accomplishments in 2011 was getting rid of the horrible Heath Bell contract.  Other than that, the team actually performed above expectations and picked up some cheap wins in the second half.

2010: 5th in NL West (54-108)
Greg Lake cleaned the house a bit as he took over but only made a few moves in his short tenure as Padres GM.  Chris Calcia was hired as his replacement and had a tough task at hand with a barren MLB roster and a team at the bottom of the standings, a couple big, painful contracts, and little wiggle room under a $60m cap.

Chris put the Padres through a rebuilding stage by trading away star slugger Adrian Gonalzez to the Cardinals in return for many of the top prospects they received in the Pujols deal.  The team was by far the worst in the first half and picked up the pace slightly in the 2nd half to finish with the 2nd worst record in the majors in 2010.

2009: 5th in NL West (73-89)
The Padres performed poorly in 2009 due to a lack of talent and injuries to the once solid starting rotation.

  • Rhino7: @Daddy, thanks for what you said lol. It was the ultimate challenge to beat JWalkerjr88 last season, I wanted my path to go through him so it makes my title run that much better! I just wanted to get to the SB and figured at that point anything can happen and lucky for me, my boys had enough left to take out BAB. Live is the most challenging league I’m in and most fun, so thanks for what you all do to make it that way.

  • Jwalkerjr88: You did well Rhino. I appreciate the battle. The loss didnt sting more because i was undefeated, i know fully that being undefeated in the reg season doesnt mean anything in the playoffs. When rhino and i played this past season, the better team won.
  • Jwalkerjr88: This next year im coming full force. So far my pattern is win a chip every other year. Lets keep the streak going!!

  • Daddy: I hate losing. Especially when its the biggest moments. I hate my teams i root for to lose. I really hate for the teams i built myself to lose.
  • Jwalkerjr88: I dont like losing ever. But a loss is a loss. Im pissed either way
    Yesterday at 11:09:47 PM
  • Braves155: Are you also a perfectionist in your everyday life?
  • Daddy: Im not a perfectionist in my dynasty life. I make all kinds of bad trades and make all kinds of mistakes.
  • Jwalkerjr88: If i traded all my picks to a division rival in a rebuild and he beat me in the title game with Desmond ridder or lose undefeated. Its all a loss at the end of the day
    Yesterday at 11:11:08 PM
  • Daddy: Nobody is right all the time. Its the beauty of sports.

  • Jwalkerjr88: 3 out of the 4 starting QBs in the title games have been traded this offseason

  • Daddy: It helps just to fill up your roster and sign good contracts. If you dont know crap but keep a full roster and manage finances, you will kick ass.
  • Daddy: I wasnt a genius signing Kuechel. I was just filling an empty spot. I got rewarded with the best pitcher in baseball for a few seasons.
  • Braves155: I love it when one of your Dynasty teams you've been rebuilding starts showing up and being competitive early in the season. Especially in baseball
    Yesterday at 11:19:42 PM
  • Brent: Agreed.  I'm decent at building, but I need to get better st winning.  I did win an offsite 32-team football league, it only took me 1.5 season to rebuild and win.
  • Daddy: Thats what you should be doing @Brent. LIVE sharpens those skills so you can go elsewhere and dominate unsuspecting leagues.
