St. Louis Cardinals History
2021:
1st in NL Central (138-24)
The
had an amazing run in 2021! Despite losing OF Mike Trout to a season-long injury, the
managed to be one of the top teams in FGM. Rated as the 3rd best team in the overall standings,
made some shrewd trades and dominated the NL Central. Finishing only 2 games behind the top rated teams,
and
, the
entered the playoffs as the #2 Seed in the National League. The Red Birds had a competitive playoff series with the
, but fell short and were left with thoughts of what could have been. Regardless, they had a fine season and are poised to be in the hunt in 2022.
2020:
2nd in Central Division (49-11)
The
rebuild efforts were certainly on display in 2020. With Mike Trout, Jose Abreu, Anthony Rendon, and Will Smith, the
had a very potent everyday lineup. The rotation was a little light, as the
relied on Dallas Keuchel, Griffin Canning, and Sean Manaea. Entering the playoffs as the #6 Seed, the
were eliminated in the opening round by the
. In spite of its short lived playoff run, 2020 was a success, and 2021 should be better if the
cand acquire some arms to compliment their hitters.
2019:
3rd in NL Central (68-94)
2018:
3rd in NL Central (84-78)
2017:
NL Central Champs (98-64)
2016:
NL Central Champs (98-64)
2015:
2nd in NL Central (50-40)
The
finished 24 games out of 1st behind the
.
lineup featured Adrian Beltre and Shin-Soo Choo, but not much else. With Zack Greinke and Marcus Stroman, the
pithing corp had some good foundation pieces, but the roster will have to look for some help in free agency.
2014:
NL Central Champs (102-39)
After a strong season, the
entered the playoffs with some momentum. In the NLDS,
easily defeated the
. The season came to an end for
in the NLCS. In a close, hard fought series, the
squeaked out a victory and ended the opportunity for
to win back-to-back titles.
2013:
2nd in NL Central (99-42)
The
finished 27 games behind Division Winning
, but qualified for the playoffs as a Wild Card team. In the NLDS, the
trounced those same
by some 1000 points. In the NLCS, the
crushed a slumping
team by 840+ points to advance to the FGM World Series. Their World Series foe was the
and the
continued their winning ways and captured the FGM Championship!
2012:
NL Central Champs (98-64)
St. Louis won back-to-back division titles for the first time since 2004-2006 when they won three NL Central titles in a row. St. Louis finished with the second best record in the National League. The Cardinals easily won the NL Central despite runs from Houston, Milwaukee, and Pittsburgh. This very good season went wasted as they lost to the Nationals in the NLDS. The depth that GM Paul S. built and the supporting farm system is very sustainable, so don't expect the Cardinals to back down from their hold on the NL Central.
2011:
NL Central Champs (106-56)
The Cardinals had a bounce back year in 2011. The team had an extraordinary amount of depth with two all-stars in Johnny Venters and Alex Avila. All-star 1B Adrian Gonzalez was eventually sent to the Dodgers to free up cash for other acquisitions. The Cards trailed the Brewers for much of the season and then won the division title in the last couple weeks. They faced Adrian Gonzales and the defending WS Champion Dodgers in the NLDS and lost a nail-biter of a series.
2010:
3rd in NL Central (87-75)
Paul, the newly hired GM of the Cardinals, overhauled the roster by sending off franchise face Albert Pujols and Chris Carpenter for many top prospects. They replaced these players with multiple, cheaper veterans that may add up to the same value. In the mean time, the Cardinals would have one of the best farms that will quickly take over the veteran lineup.
The expectations were low for the Cardinals who traded away their two best players. The Cardinals surprised the league with a first half start that was bested by only the Brewers. Eventually, off-season acquisition Jorge Cantu and their own Adam Wainwright were traded away for more offensive fire power in Adrian Gonzalez and Justin Morneau. The team struggled down the stretch as Morneau (concussion) was out and just missed the playoffs.
2009:
2nd in NL Central (88-74)
The real life Cardinals felt like they were World Series bound in 2009 whereas the Franchise GM version fell short of the playoffs. Each team performed sub-par compared to its roster. The fantasy version went out and replaced its GM...
