I'm extending the deadline for extensions until tonight at midnight. There's a few of you out there with guys I'm sure you'll want to extend, like Sutter in Montreal, I'm sure Bill wants to extend him since he just traded for him.

After tonight extensions are done!

gets Chris Kunitz LW $3,700,000 (11/12), 2nd round pick #17 & 3rd round pick #17

gets Teddy Purcell C $2,400,000 (13/14), 3rd round pick #3 & 5th round pick #12

I trade a good young forward with a cheap contract for a veteran winger. I make this trade to, once again, fill positional needs. To compensate for the age/price difference I'm getting a better draft position in return. Considering that I'm edging the cap already I probably lose in this deal but since I traded a 3rd round pick for Purcell I've essentially received Kunitz for a 5th round pick and a better position in round 2, which to me is a total steal.

A simple trade for once! I make this trade because I need a LW. Pouliot's a Bruin now so that's gravy.

gets Brad Marchand & 2nd round pick #14

gets negotiating rights to Jean-Sebastian Giguere, 2nd round pick #3 and 3rd round pick #3

I'm a Marchand fan but not at his price. I make this trade to free up cap space. I think I can fill some glaring holes in my roster with those picks and Giguere, if healthy, should get playing time in Col and gives me some much needed goalie depth after dealing Tuukka.

Leafs to accept.

I was thinking in addition to the 3 entry draft keepers we add to our rosters every year that we could have a 1 or 2 round draft for the contracted teams' draftees in lieu of just adding them to the FA pool. Thoughts?

Just FYI: I'll be away from Thurs 7/21 until Sun 7/31 on vacation. I'll only be physically away for a couple days so I'll be able to check in here and there that week.
