While Thompson's status could be seen as a liability, this trade was mostly done to bring in Stavinoha in an effort to add more to the top of the farm. Plus, the Pirates may need to clear some picks so the EDR isn't overloaded. Paul, Cardinals GM, is to approve this deal.
Cardinals confirm. This move clears roster spots and gives us another draft pick.

The ChiSox give up pick #2-28 for Skip Schmumaker RFA. Chicago will signs Skip to an extension. $5m/yr(?-I've been a little pre-occupied,haven't been able to follow Fantrax discussion) for 3 years.

The Cardinals are looking to open up some roster spots for free agency. A package of Brad Thompson, Joe Thurston, and either Brian Barden, Joe Mather, or Nick Stavinoha is available to a team needing bench depth in exchange for a draft pick. Pleas PM all offers.
