MI Kevin Maitan Discussion
« on: July 18, 2016, 12:30:01 AM »
$20m

Toronto has failed to post contract terms within the allotted 24hr. period. Therefore he forfeits his rights to K. Maitan.
By rule KC currently has the highest bid at $20m. Also, by rule, the clock restarts from 11:10P East 7/17/16 and bidding may recommence. The same bidding rule applies- High bid must stand for 72 hrs.
Toronto is ineligible to make any further bids.

I was away for the weekend and didn't see I had won. Many times this has happened to all players in the league without having to recur to this situation. Just because you believe I cannot afford the bid does not mean I do not.

My contract offer 5.5m for 4y.

Move Albert Suarez, Edwin Diaz and Hazelbaker to the minors
Drop Tony Sipp and Yadiel Rivera
Drop ARod and Yan Gomes

That should clear the necessary cap room.

Daniel you knew that Flash and I were very concerned about your bidding for this player. You told us that you knew what you were doing and that you were aware of the time limitations.
If I'm not mistaken, in that very same chain of PMs I quoted the applicable rule and told you that I intended to use it to it's fullest extent. You were aware of these circumstances and still were irresponsible enough to do absolutely nothing. That's on you, I'm just following the rules.

This league is supposed to be fun. It does not run my life and having a life is not 'being irresponsible'. I cannot know in advance when a bid will be final. Also, I told you the two ways I could cover the bid and fully intended to do so. It is not like I kept a secret how I would do it.

And by the way it is the spirit of the rule what matters. There is zero advantage that I gain from this delay so I do not see why I am breaking the spirit of the rule which is to avoid GM abuse to gain unfair advantages.

We all know we "play" fantasy baseball to have fun and we all know we have other things going on in our lives besides the activities in FGM.  With that, we also know that in order for things to run properly we have to have a course of play governed by an adopted set of rules.

It's unfortunate you have missed out on adding Kevin Maitan to your roster, but I think we have been down this road before.  When I sent you a PM questioning your ability to cover the bids you were placing, you assured me you had two deals in the works--one for ARod and the other for Peavy.  Your bid met the 72 hour requirement, yet you never posted either of the trades you said were going give you the necessary cap space.

Usually, when we are involved in a free agent bid, we all check the box to be notified if a new bid was being made on the player we want.  You're a veteran GM, so I'm sure you're aware of this practice.  With that, we all have phones to check in on our teams, our bids, our PMs and other related matters.  This is usually more so when we are attempting to add a player we really want--which is what I would say characterizes your bidding practices in relation to Kevin Maitan.

Whether it's for a much coveted free agent or a bench player, we are all accountable to the rules which govern our league.  We went through a similar discussion last year in relation to a disallowed trade involving your team.  Rick and I realize there are times when members become upset with us for enforcing the rules, but as commissioners, we would not be fulfilling our responsibilities if we disregarded the rules for certain members, like you, and not others.  It is certainly no "fun" for us to be in a position where we have to step in and enforce a rule such as the one we've applied to the Maitan bidding.  In retrospect, if anything, we are guilty of placing the full responsibility to handle the matter in a timely way on your shoulders.  Rick issued a stern warning that this would happen if you did not take care of your business.  He even listed the rule to make sure you were aware that you were in a precarious situation and you needed to do everything as you promised you would.

Suspending a GMs ability to bid on a player does not happen often, and when it does, someone is usually upset.  We had to do it last year in the Kang bidding for exactly the same reason and now, unfortunately, we have to do it again with Maitan.

Let's not engage in a post war.  The matter is closed.  Let's accept the fact that you've lost out on adding Kevin Maitan and there is nothing you can say, or do, that will change that.

For the record, my trade for ARod was not completed in time because of an error in my team's profile page. I assume that is my fault too?

Ask kungfuwig, he was going to post when he said he was backing out because my team page said ARod's contract is 2017 when it is actually 2016.

And also, I mentioned that if the deal fell through I would do a long-term deal with the necessary accompanying drops, so it is nto that I could not cover the bid.

    May 17, 2024, 02:36:56 PM
  • Brent: I'm contemplating doing a complete tear down in NFL Live and rebuild.  Honestly, I probably should have postered for it to be this season.  I still might, but I would legit need to go into the draft with 3-4 top 10 picks/+ many others.

  • Jwalkerjr88: Yea nailing drafts and some key FAs helps too. But if you remember BAB you traded alvin kamara for the rams 1-7 draft picks. So the extra picks helped you nail the 2023 draft the way you did
    May 17, 2024, 03:13:02 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: Its the combination of all three that is required is what im saying
    May 17, 2024, 03:13:31 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: And brent a tear down with you assets would look interesting. Personally i just think you need break one big asset down into 3 good ones and move carr and go from there. But you have an A1 nfl mind so im sure you will nail whatever it is you decide

    May 17, 2024, 03:34:25 PM
  • Brent: Thank you.  Yes, I agree.  I do need to break one asset down to 3.  I did that with JJ, went from S tier to 2 A tiers.  Now I need to potentially go from an A tier to 3 Bs or something like that.  I've had some inquiries on Carr, but nothing worth moving him.

    May 17, 2024, 05:53:04 PM
