As of 12:01 am on 9/26/16, the contract amounts for released players will be 90/60/30. The players with expiring 2016 contracts are now free agents, so if a player is released, the 90/60/30 amounts will begin with their 2017 contracts.
Players on (P-2016) contracts have until 12:01 am on 1/1/17 to be extended.

Note: The RP scale is significantly lower than previous years for two reasons:
-------1: Many of the SP/RP who were at the top of the scale lost their RP status during the 2015 season and during the 2016 season they were only listed as SP, so they are no longer a part of the RP salary scale.
-------2: When we first updated the scales, there was a discussion in regards to SP/RPs who were inflating the table because they were on SP contracts, scored bigger numbers as SP, yet were considered RPs. I inflated some of the contracts (1-10) on the 2016 table to come up with a compromise regarding the inflated numbers of SP/RPs. However, since that time, we have reduced the Type A and Type B free agents to the top 12 for RP (Type A = 1-6 and Type B = 7-12). Along with that, many teams use RPs who are on small contracts or on (P-n/a) contracts, so if we are going to truly have our Extension Value Scales reflect supply and demand, we have to utilize the actual contracts that exist on our teams and not artificially inflate a players contract.
Along with this, and related to a point I brought up during the 2016 free agency period, there are a variety of contracts for position players that were artificially inflated because of what I would call "reckless bidding". There are a variety of minor league players who are on high, multi-year contracts and those bloated contracts affect the contract extensions which the rest of the league seeks. We are gradually seeing the Extension Value Scale reflect what is actually transpiring in the league. There are some bargains, like SP Jake Arrieta's $11.5m contract, but there are also some contracts that are out of whack--too numerous to actually name. Some of the GM's who bid recklessly are no longer in the league, yet we are all left with the "damage" they have done with their inexplicable spending.

, but I think there are times when I need to bring up issues which I believe affect us all. The Free Agent period will be upon us before we know it, so I would hope that league members take some precautions to utilize their "money" in the most frugal way.
