Executive Committee - Rosters 25/40 man
« on: January 28, 2014, 05:40:33 PM »
There's an issue with this how this is set up.  A 40 man player in AAA can't simultaneously be in AAA and be in a major league lineup.  The way FanTrax is set up this is what is going to happen.  Right now we have teams signing free agents without room on their 25 man rosters.  I reall don't want to get involved with moving players around to fix people's rosters so I can put new players on their rosters.  For me that's kind of where this crosses over from Commissioner to fantasy nanny or something.  So we can do one of two things.  We can eliminate the 25 man roster altogether, have a full 40 man roster where only 25 players score points which is basically how it's set up now in FanTrax but not on the spreadsheets.  Or we can remove the extra 15 men from the 40 man rosters from the MLB roster in FanTrax and put them back in the minor league systems where they're listed in the spreadsheets.  What are your thoughts?

I'm good with either way.  Just blowing up the 25 man and going with the 40 seems the easiest thing though putting those extra 15 in the minor leagues and requiring a transaction to call those players up seems the more accurate way to do it.

Without tracking options, which I don't want anything to do with, the 25 man roster is basically aesthetic. The league has operated on a September call up model and for record keeping purposes it is very practical.  And I think strategy comes into to play more so on a day to day basis having the full 40 man available. I think requiring a transaction would decrease activity as it would become almost burdensome to set and maintain a daily line up.  I don't think adjusting the roster to reflect a straight 40man at this point should be a priority.

Yeah I feel the same way. I think it is fine the way it is. I get what you are saying Chris. The MLB fantrax team is the 40man so it's only a hassle as far as spreadsheets are concerned and it's purely aesthetic. I think restricting it to 25 man on Fantrax would be a mistake as well as it would create a flurry of daily transactions to get spot starters in.

It's not a perfect system right now but I'm not sure there is a more realistic and easier way to do it.

I would eliminate the 25-man roster.  There's no point in having it if you are going to let people use more than 25 players when they are setting their lineup...

Pretty much agree with this - 40 man seems easier all round.

I agree, and it already works that way, updating the rosters to reflect will take a while.  I've got my hands full with free agency and the draft right now.  We need to decide what to do with the 15 minor league spots that would open.  Either we just open up the spots and have 258 roster sports or reduce the lowest 3 levels by 5 players each to keep the rosters at 243.

I think it's just fine the way it is. As deep as our starting line-ups are , using the minors as the bench makes perfect sense. Yes...it is "cosmetic", but it's easier to manage.

This league will crash and burn because of documentation and not much else. KISS...keep it simple stupid. Using the 25/40 system allows for the players who may get used in September but do not use up their minor eligibility. And there is really no reason to have anyone on the 40 man roster who would not be used or at least has the real potential of being used at some point.

  • Brent: Agreed.  I have Amon Ra St. Brown and Aiyuk because I traded JJ.  I couldn't have acquired a player like ASB where I was picking in the 1st so I down tiered at WR to make a trio of Chase, ASB and Aiyuk instead of JJ, Chase and fill in the blank.

  • ldsjayhawk: That is probably even more true in baseball since your drafts don't payoff for 5 years or so.  And I will admit my conservatism may be the reason I only have one championship here at ProFSL

  • Brent: I'm contemplating doing a complete tear down in NFL Live and rebuild.  Honestly, I probably should have postered for it to be this season.  I still might, but I would legit need to go into the draft with 3-4 top 10 picks/+ many others.

  • Jwalkerjr88: Yea nailing drafts and some key FAs helps too. But if you remember BAB you traded alvin kamara for the rams 1-7 draft picks. So the extra picks helped you nail the 2023 draft the way you did

  • Jwalkerjr88: And brent a tear down with you assets would look interesting. Personally i just think you need break one big asset down into 3 good ones and move carr and go from there. But you have an A1 nfl mind so im sure you will nail whatever it is you decide

  • Brent: Thank you.  Yes, I agree.  I do need to break one asset down to 3.  I did that with JJ, went from S tier to 2 A tiers.  Now I need to potentially go from an A tier to 3 Bs or something like that.  I've had some inquiries on Carr, but nothing worth moving him.
