We trade Martin Russell who's power numbers have declined dramatically each of the past 2 years and now has moved to another team in Toronto. The move will put us in the market for a replacement.
We also give up on Jacob Turner and his 6.13 ERA last year. He has only posted an ERA under 4.00 once in his career. Kelvin Herrera had a nice 2014 but we felt he was not part of our future.
We also send OF prospect Victor Roache who had issues at the plate this season with to many strikeouts.
In return, we get 3 young players we really like. Vargas HR per AB ratio was better than Freddie Freeman and even Miggy last year. Bonifacio who should get a shot at some playing time for the Royals this season. And Kiermaier, who may not get as much playing time this season, with a healthy Will Meyer back in the OF, but we think his future is very bright.
The trade also frees up $6M in cap space for us
