Not sure if this is different on Shooter's/Callys idea but protected picks. If a team's player is picked by a team that isn't them they get another pick in that round.
1st round - McDavid is picked first
- Oilers get an additional first round pick.
2nd round - Nurse is picked
- Oilers get an additional second round pick.
1st round - McDavid is picked by the Oilers
- No compensation.
Just wondering before I vote if this was the idea?
The idea regarding this was that all NHL 1st Round Draft picks go into the Supp Draft pool.
For example, last year, Matthews, Laine, Dubois, Pulji, Juolevi, Tkachuck, etc. would all have been available to be drafted in our Supp Draft, along with any other players under 40 NHL games played.
Our teams in DNHL - Your now NYR and my now VAN teams would still be able to choose 2-3 players from that year's draft for free still, just not 1st rounders.
So any 2nd-7th round NHL draftees from that year we can still choose to keep 'for free'
So using your real-life Oilers, since you probably know them better, you would have been able to still keep some of: Tyler Benson (2nd rd), Markus Niemelainen (3rd rd), Matthew Cairns (3rd rd), Filip Berglund (3rd rd), Dylan Wells (5th rd) 'for free'
