We make this deal because we do not have a 3B. Jorge is a good prospect, but still a couple years away. We get a little help with his contract and are happy to welcome Michael to the team.

Michael Young should be a very productive and versatile player this season and would be great for a playoff run.  Unfortunately, we don't plan to win many games this season.  Jorge is still a few years off yet, but he's a strong prospect nevertheless.

Chicago gets an extremely useful infielder in a year they are looking to chase the title for a player that they won't see for a few years.
Minnesota gets an outfield prospect for a player that they don't need.

It's a win/win situation.
