It was great working this trade out with the Royals.
The key to this trade for the Diamondbacks is locking up young talent for years to come at a cheap price. We feel our return adds to our strong core of young players under team control.
While it hurts to lose proven MLB talents, Ibanez and Drew are both in their walk year and would not have been resigned this off season. Garza has been a solid contributor for Arizona and will be missed but we feel he can be replaced by some of the young up and coming pitchers in our system that are close to the MLB and will be contributing to the big league roster in the near future.
In return Arizona gets two guys in Giavotella and Jeffress who are young, talented, have some big league experience and we believe will be contributors at some point this season as well as be fixtures on the big league roster for the remainder of their contracts. Respectively they have 5 and 4 years of very affordable team control remaining.
Bonifacio has had a break out season as a power hitting 19yr old and has seen his stock rise substantially. He is a great addition to our farm system and we believe he will continue to improve and ultimately add to the big league roster.
