While Freeman is a superior talent, Cubs are retooling a bit.  I had an excess of relief arms so Joe Smith drew the short straw.  Garlick appears to be a AAAA player, and I am trying to get younger on the farm.
 This deal really helps add depth into the Cubs system.  I'm excited to add a MLB ready talent in Martinez.  I am also excited to add Josh Naylor who I believe is an under the radar player.  You can never have enough arms so adding Peterson, Sborz, and Pint follows that philosophy.  Braves to confirm.

Turning Jose Martinez into Freeman is an easy deal, especially when the prospect I value the most is 5'11, over 200 pounds, and moved to an already crowded outfield because he is blocked by Hosmer. I'm doing a bit of retooling myself and taking a flyer on someone like Garlick is an easy thing to do. Thanks for being patient Cubs. Good luck
