This trade came as a result of extended negotiations for Springer. Angels couldn't quite match the Yankees offer.

Stewart is a name that Detroit expressed interest in that kept coming up and Fowler provides CF depth as Trout is the only CF eligible player on my team. It hurts giving up a high upside guy like Stewart who was the 4th overall pick a couple years ago but getting Fowler fits my needs and timeline more than Stewart who probably won't make it to the bigs for another year or two.

Tigers confirm.

Tigers make this deal for reasons similar to why we made the other deal: we've got to keep acquiring as much young talent as possible. I think Dexter Fowler is a solid player on a good contract (made even better by the Tigers paying 80% of that deal) but Kohl Stewart should at least become a high-leverage RP if not a very good SP and I couldn't pass that kind of player up. Trade should work well for both teams long term.

Thanks again for working with me on this - it took a few days but I'm glad we were able to make it work.
