Not hard to do if you only field 2/3 of a full roster. I'm all for being able to rebuild but maybe there should be limits on the amount of cap space that can be allocated to buy-outs....at $28.9m that's over 40%. Or....maybe there should be a minimum number of roster players in play.....say 20?

I understand the point here as that it isn't a competitive this season and could be considered "throwing" the season but I don't think the buyout factor is the problem. More of the problem is New York is obviously not trying to win this year but also I don't think there is a way they could win either with the players they have.
All in all I expect that New York will be better next season but only thing that could be debated here is "throwing" the season but I don't think they could win games with the current lineup.

I don't think they could win with the current line-up either....which of course has been determined by two factors 1) the number of active roster players and 2) the cap space available to field active players. Both have been severely impacted by near $30m in buy-outs.

There's nothing I can do about Jesse tanking so that's not really my concern. Honestly, if I were in his position I would want to put myself in the best possible draft position as this season is an obvious write-off.

Moving forward, I think that a minimum should be set on active roster players to keep competitiveness as high as possible. It's a low-impact tweak to existing rules that serves as a built-in 'check' against tanking in the future. The only question is how many players should the minimum be?

This is exactly my point and why I am not considering it a violation as it is a rebuild.

I knew after going 0-3 that I wasn't going to make the playoffs so thats when I decided that I should try and get rid of as much cap for next year so in the offseason I could add depth players on nice contracts not overpaid contrcts.
