He is just like any other free agent in the system. This is like me signing Eckstein last year, he didn't play and didn't end up with a contract, but I flew a flyer on him because there was talk of a contract. I think he's trying to comeback this year too but that's besides the point. I would just like a little elaboration as to why he is different. He will clearly be playing in the minor leagues this year.
Entry Draft Roster (EDR) - rule 6Only players eligible for the MLB Entry Draft will be eligible for the Franchise GM Entry Draft - foreign players and unprotected prospects will be handled via free agency (however foreign players may warrant consideration for an additional rule)
We cover this time and time again, if an international player has never had a mlb contract, you can not post them until they sign the initial contract. This has been a standard in this league and at this site for a couple years now. Example Iwamua was supposed to sign with Oakland last year. Oakland paid his club in Asia for the right to sign him. They did not work out a deal and he signed this year with Sea. He was not allowed to be signed in FGM last year because he was expected to sign.
We have been through this since the league started...someone must have or had an MLB contract prior to be posting. Draft eligible players who did not sign can be given a contract at an inflated price during the draft and that is it. Soler is unavailable to be bid on, until he has a MLB contract in hand. This is also not open for debate. This has been covered by anyone who has paid attention. We are not going down this rabbit hole again.
