GMs can not sign experienced minor leaguers or players with a * next to their name to extensions. They have to be called up before they are signed to a contract.

Should be good to sign him, he was on a 2-way last year so shouldn't be an experienced minor leaguer.

I know rosters aren't updated anymore but you can see Howden had a 2-way contract here until the end of 2020-21.

we need anthony to chime in on this but my interpitation is that when you sign a player with more than 40 games played to an extension that he has to be on the major league team and if you want him to be in the minors you have to follow the rules to place him down there.

Ya I can wait on the ruling from Anthony as well but think of it this way, is during the usual first extension period, I could sign a 2-way player to an extension and still be able to move him up and down freely until the start of the next season when he has a new contract.

This extension period is still part of this season and the new season doesn't start until the draft technically.

So yes, he was a 2-way player last year in the minors as anyone who was in the minors that wasn't on a 2 way was automatically dropped per the rules.

I would interpret it the same way as Jim, but you're right if you resigned him during the year you could have moved him to the minors before the year ended.

I didn't keep track of who was a 2 way player on an expired contract so I'll allow you to keep him in the minors. I'll add this to the list of rules that need clarification
