increase to goalies costs,, Yes, but 33% is too much and I would suggest a bit of revamp on the goalie contract extensions down through. Yes Carey price should be top cost at 8.9 or higher. I am thinking, 10 maybe 11. The big discrepancy I see in our goalie extensions is the lower end guys at 25 - 35. last years 25 to 35 contains name like Kari Lehtonen, Niemi, cam ward, jimmy howard. Those are all still starting goalies,,, these are the extension costs... I am thinking guys in those ranks should still be looking at a 4.5-5.5mill range 25 2.926 2.927 2.828 2.629 2.530 2.531 2.332 2.333 2.334 2.335 2.2so maybe not just a standard across the board increase but a bit of an overhaul on that.
when Wayne simmons comes off IR I will have have 2.6M in cap space. if you cut the cap then I will be over the cap and I have 8 guys I will have to resign at the end of the year. I made deals in the last couple of weeks trying to get into the playoffs with our current cap in mind. Now if I had know you would reduce the cap I may not have made those deals. It would be fair if you kept the cap where it is even for several years and made the other changes to player salaries and extensions but its not fair to reduce the cap without a years notice.
Its looking like the only way to make our teams competitive is to trade all your good players for draft picks and suck tor 3 years.
I think maybe instead of increasing the cap, maybe we decrease it over a certain amount of years. Just for example, $10m over 4 years, so $2.5m each year over 4 years.
I would support upping goalie extension prices for goalies ranked 15-30
This could help, though I'm not entirely convinced that Snug's example is representative. We have a 2 year window for their ranking to apply, so it's hard for good goalies to slip through the cracks and get into that 15-30 range.
I think its important to remember that our young goalies of the future will mostly be eligible for a prospect discount. Take young guys like John Gibson Jake Allen, starting to come into their own and potentially signing a 5 year $2m deal when they are in the primes of their career. I think that a increase for 15-30 will catch some of those young guys and even some of the better backups like Martin Jones or Cam Talbot who are going to be starting now.
