Dodgers - Marlins trade
« on: July 31, 2014, 05:05:39 AM »
I don't want anyone to get their feelings hurt, but didn't this trade get processed before it got the required votes?

Isn't this the rule we are to follow?

"Trade Committee - If zero to one TC members are involved then trade must receive five approvals.  If two TC members are involved then trade must receive four approvals."

Neither team involved is on the Trade Committee, yet the trade was "Fantraxed" with only four approvals.  I logged on yesterday and the Dodgers had not confirmed the trade, so no action could be taken by the TC.  I log on today and see it processed before it got the required five approvals.  Although I know, and trust, all is done with good intentions--it just doesn't look right when a trade is processed prematurely by one of the GMs involved in the trade, and the newly acquired players are available for his use in his current matchup.

This is not a case of the Giants GM, me, crying foul because the Dodgers and Giants are matched up against each other this week. I simply believe that we need to honor the process and follow the rules.   In a variety of instances this year, I have seen Leadership make rulings based upon this premise and therefore, there is no justification for processing a trade prematurely.

Again, I mean no ill will towards anyone, I just think things like this can be avoided, no matter who is involved, if we pay attention to our governing rules.

Smoking Gun, you're right Flash, I got the numbers backwards on the numbers of votes required. If you canpoint out any other instances were this has occurred, point them out and I'll fix them.

The problem is that we don't have the most active trade committee.  Its frustrating for how long trades sit on the board with no votes.  That shouldn't happen in this league where there are so many great owners.  I would be fine with looking at lowering the rule down to four approvals in the offseason.

Here are the point totals for yesterday for the players in the trade. Here is how I see the adjustment for scores for 7/30/2014.

Dodgers would have started Butler and Escobar in place of Morse and Desmond. So for the dodgers the Adjustment should be -40 + 0 -63.2 - 8.08 = -111.28

Marlins would have stated Morse and Desmond in place of Butler, Escobar, Rosario and Joyce. So for the Marlins the adjustment should be 63.2 + 8.08 - (-40) - (0) - (-5.2) - (-1.2) = 117.68

CI   Butler, Billy CI - KC         -40
MI   Escobar, Eduardo MI - MIN         0
C   Rosario, Wilin C - COL                     -5.2
OF   Joyce, Matt OF - TB         -1.2

CI   Morse, Michael CI,OF - SF      63.2
MI   Desmond, Ian MI - WAS         8.08
SP   Hernandez, Roberto SP - PHI           Didn't Pitch
SP   Sanchez, Jonathan SP - (N/A)    Didn't Pitch

I don't think this adjustment is necessary.  The intent of my post was to reaffirm the process.  I would have posted my approval of the trade had I logged on earlier, so readjustment of the points is not necessary in my estimation.

I hope my comments don't seem like I'm questioning anyone's integrity -- it was a simple oversight that undoubtably is a residue of the lax attention of the TC in the past.  Let's move on and take this as a lesson learned and a commitment to improving our league.

I agree with these calculations .
Thanks and sorry for the mix-up,

  • Daddy: Honestly i love the deal because my GMs love it. I dont say good deal bad deal or i like this side better.  My goal is to provide a fair platform where people are free to trade and not be judged because nobody knows for sure how these trades will play out. Lots of ACLs are gonna tear between now and new years.  Im always happy that two strangers with different backgrounds can meet in our league and enjoy freedom to be themselves and do what THEY THINK is best. I love every deal. (Had to share that @Braves) :toast:
