This won't effect anyone, really, but I wanted to address a gray area in the Retirement rules due to the recent bidding on Kovalchuk. Here's the update, bolded text is new.
Retired Players
All contracts for players who retire from the NHL are considered null and void.
All contracts for players 35+ years old who leave the NHL to play overseas in another league are considered null and void. ***If a team acquires a former NHL player currently playing overseas with the expectation that the player will return to the NHL in the future, the contract cannot be voided. The player needs to leave during the contracted time to qualify.
All contracts for players under 35 years old who leave the NHL to play overseas in another league remain in force.
