Rule Discussion - Minor League Drops

Another proposed addition:

GMs have the choice to release one player in their minor league making x amount or over. We are moving up to 20 minor league spots but some players like Timonen, Phaneuf, etc would be better going to free agency and someone having them on their team, rather then sitting in the minors until their contracts run out.

I don't think teams should be able to do that. They should be using the waiver free period or buyouts to adjust their salary caps accordingly.

I believe teams should be responsible for their own actions, and if their action has led to that team leaving a player rot with a hefty contract in the minors or to buy out an expensive and useless contract (like I did with Toni Lydman), than so be it. If a team wants an expensive player sitting in the minor, they can do what Drew and I did in regards to Dan Hamphuis and trade for the guy. I am very sure most teams will not ask for a premium when it comes to these players.
