Contract Buy outs New Rules Feelings?
« on: August 14, 2011, 09:35:32 PM »
I would like to redo the way we we complete buyouts. I'm just looking for everyones feelings on it.

To buy a player out you must place him on waivers first. If a team claims him, that team takes the player on at half of his salary for the remaining contract The players oringal team will pay the other half untill the contract is completed or has been extended.

Waviers will work like this. It will depend on current standings. Last place team gets first claim priority ect. Since their is no season right now last seasons final standings will apply. To put a player on waivers you will need to make a post in the transaction section stating the player you wish to waive. Each player must be given a a seperate post. The post will stay open for 48hrs and after that time has passed either the lowest seeded team, to make a claim will be awarded that player or that player will then be able to be bought out by the owning team. The team who put the player on waivers is not required to buy out that player if he's not claimed, but they will still be required to pay the reamining salary and keep him on their roster. You have 48hrs after the waiver claim is closed to make a decision. You can only put a player up for waivers every 14 days.`

If a team that claims a player of waivers extends that player he will be responable for the value of the new contract and the previous team will be free of any salary commitment.

If a team that claimed a player of waivers wants to waive or buy out that player. The same process applys but at the current half salary.

Opinions?

although slightly closer to the nhl process, it seems to create even more processes for you organizers which slows things down potentially.
as it stands, not sure if there's time to process the current buyouts that have been picked up thus cancelling the original team's obligation.
i am for this new change if you guys can handle the additional tracking + processing.

question: how would we drop players with this new buyout/waiver concept? if the player passes unclaimed thru waivers then the dropping team has to eat the entire salary but gets to free up a roster spot?

You can either buy out the player at 2 thirds of his contract and free up a roster spot or keep him on your roster and ride out his contract.

Sounds like it would be more realistic compared to the NHL. Also we would still have the option of an outright buyout at 2/3 over the span of the remaining contract term so that's some flexibility to delete players from our roster.

Waiting for the player to go through the 48hrs waiver window is a drag but it is more realistic so i would say Yes to this.

I was reading through  the rules and how the league is run. If this league is processed manually (which seems to be the case given all the Processed on Fantrax and Processed on Profsl threads) then it might not be an efficient new process to introduce IMHO. Take that with a grain of salt since I'm the new guy and maybe I don't realize the process is automated or that there's an army of people working behind the scenes.

I think it's great that the commissioner presents new ideas and allows discussion. Nothing worse than a commissioner that acts like a dictator.

You have my vote of confidence HockeyFreak6000.  :toast:
