Suggestion for waivers next season
« on: August 28, 2011, 10:56:48 AM »
I think next season, each team should be limited in the amount of players that each team can put on waivers as well as how many players a team can claim on waivers. I think it will open up transactions a little more.

How does this open up transactions a little more?

That way you don't have a limited amount of teams monopolizing the waivers. I realize this is unrealistic by comparison to MLB, but it is also unrealistic that one team would put in a claim on more or less every player that hits the wire. So it is either you deal with these few select teams or you don't deal at all, and that is how it limits transactions.

I disagree. Those arent realistic rules. We are emulating real life. Some guys are put on waivers to see if they reach a certain team for a pre-arranged deal. Then a team claims them and they are pulled back immediately. Neither team should be punished for that.

Two differing opinions...that is why I put it out there. I want to see how the rest of the league feels on how waivers went. You would obviously disagree since you put a claim on just about every guy that hit waivers. :koolaid:

I also said in my post that it wasn't realistic in terms of how MLB operates...but I also stated that it isn't realistic that so few teams monopolize the waiver process. So to claim realism as your reasoning to keep things the way they are then you also have to agree that it is unrealistic for the above reason. I have said this many times before, we can only emulate MLB only so far, this is after all still a fantasy league.

How often are cheap sp's put on waivers or guys like Weeks, Hamilton.... alot of guys put on waivers in here wouldnt be on waivers in real life anyway. Some teams did if for cap relief so they could get a good a draft pick. If you and I switched teams you would claim any good player as well. By changing it limit the number of claims a team makes it just again hampers how a bad team gets better. Cant trade picks, so now if we limit this, it just makes it even more difficult.

Good questions tho, Ill be curious to see other peoples opinions.

Corey I see your point, and it is something I have taken into account before I put this out there. I just think that our process could be a little more equal for all of the bottom teams, not just the very bottom. Plus I also think we should put a cap on the amount of guys placed on waivers. Again this differs from the MLB, but there were a lot of players put on waivers just to be thrown out there, and taken back. Which might directly correlate with my original thoughts. Or it might not.

As most of you know in most fantasy leagues once a player is claimed on waivers then that team goes to the bottom of the pack. Maybe we can do something along those lines. I dunno, I'm just spitballing here. I like the system of waivers, but I think it can be improved upon by hearing what most GMs thought of our inaugural foray into it.

I tend to agree with Corey on waivers as the bottom feeders in here need every advantage they can get whether their large or small-market. I love how waivers work in here and I believe New Era will adopt something similar to FGM's waiver system in 2012. As with any new rule changes, you always want to discuss it at the end of the year which we are in our playoffs now. The waivers are complex enough to make you think, but at the same time, their simple to execute. "If it ain't broke, then don't fix it."  :bacon:

The club also placed right-hander Michael Grove on the 15-day injured list due to lat tightness. In corresponding moves, the club has recalled right-hander J.P. Feyereisen and selected the contract of right-hander Michael Petersen. To make room for Petersen on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred right-hander Joe Kelly to the 60-day injured list.
