Why we made the trade
We make this deal to trade Sneep to a good home in Detroit where defensemen prospects will be down to 1 when B.Smith gets the call up to the big leagues this season. Sneep is already AHL seasoned and a 2nd selection overall in the 2nd Round of the '06 Draft and will see some auditioning time with the Penguins this year. He is a puck-moving blue liner who plays a physical and defensively responsible game and should - could - likely will be - full time NHLer sooner than later.
Carl Sneep is a product of Boston College so you know he will be good and at 6'4, 210Lbs it's just a matter of time before it's his turn to get the call.
Having recently taken over the Penguins team, I wanted to acquire draft picks to shape the minor league roster for future needs since we only had Defence and Right Wingers in the queue.
