MLB News / Yankees want OFs Bourn, Wells to join team
« on: December 17, 2012, 01:24:55 PM »
Rumors are that the New York Yankees are in pursuit of either Vernon Wells :LAA: or Michael Bourn :ATL: - more so Bourn if his price falls.

NFL News / Three Southern NFL teams combine to win 99-3
« on: December 16, 2012, 06:36:01 PM »
Strange headline indeed, but three NFL teams from the South all had huge points differentials in their victories today.

The biggest of the games is :ATL-NFL: Atlanta's 34-0 victory over the :NYG: New York football Giants.  This was a big game to prove the doubters wrong about Falcons football, but most will point out the inconsistency of the Coughlin-led Giants franchise.  Still, it was a major win and a nice revenge victory after New York beat them 24-2 in last year's playoffs.

Meanwhile, lowly :MIA: Miami trounced all over :JAC: Jacksonville 24-3 to give their fans hope for next year.  Warning label - these Jags are bad!

Finally, New Orleans showed its offensive might by putting up 41 points on :TAM: Tampa.  The Bucs are essentially eliminated from the playoffs now in what has become a disappointing past few weeks for them.  The story though is the shutout the porous Saints defense held against the Bucs as they win 41-0 and have their first shutout at home in over 20 years.

NFL News / Run DMC in the Rain the Key Against KC
« on: December 16, 2012, 12:39:41 PM »
The following article is a guest blog by ProFSL's partner, NFLWeather.com.  What fantasy football implications may come from the conditions in this game?

Just because playoff hopes died weeks ago doesn’t mean any love will be lost between the :KAN: Kansas City Chiefs and the :OAK-NFL: Oakland Raiders. This AFC West rivalry will have animosity as if they were fighting for the division. It might not be a heavyweight bout, but this slug-fest will be in a downpour for quintessential smash-mouth football.

NFLWeather.com forecasts a 40% chance of precipitation with mostly cloudy skies for
Sunday’s kickoff. Temperatures should top out around 58 with a swirling southern wind around 6 mph. Gloomy conditions for a gritty game.

But poor conditions don’t play to the Chiefs favor. According to the NFLWeather.com
Historical Analytics, they’re 0-2 in their last two road rain games and lost in light rain to the Raiders inside the Oakland Coliseum back in 2010. Meanwhile, Oakland is 2-0 at home in their previous two outings in poor conditions. And there’s a very good chance little will change.

Still slightly recovering from his ankle but slowly getting back to his old self, Darren
McFadden will be the cause of much pain for the KC defense. Having ran for 114 yards on 29 carries against them in October, numbers like that should expect to be replicated against a unit that gives up over 120 yards per game. But a soggy surface might wear on that ankle if he starts slipping making deep plants while cutting.

But as reliable as McFadden is when he’s healthy, if Carson Palmer continues throwing
costly interceptions it won’t matter how well the Raiders do on the ground. Even though Palmer has put up impressive offensive numbers, the turnovers have been killer. And with a lingering rainstorm this should force a heavier emphasis on the rushing attack with a receiving corps that’s had trouble catching balls all year that aren’t even wet.

Like Palmer and the Raiders, the Chiefs fate lies in the hands of a quarterback and his
decision-making. Brady Quinn has only two touchdowns and five interceptions to his name and the only was KC can pull out a win is if he can improve upon that dismal ration. But without Dwayne Bowe, the Chiefs aerial assault will be completely nonexistent.

That means only one thing, roughly 30 carries going straight into the hands of Jamaal
Charles. He’s built for a game like this, a grind it out in the mud and fight for every inch style outing. Even though the Raiders surrender over 130 yards per game, the D stymied KC into only 49 rushing yards. But averaging just under 150 yards per game, the Chiefs will relentlessly run straight at the Raiders and eventually they’ll find some holes.

Now there is one thing both teams are fighting for, the first pick in the spring draft. But
just because they’re close to that coveted top spot, plenty of players and coaches have their jobs on the line leaving much to be had from this division matchup. Two teams with a combined 5-21 record will typically give the impression of a melancholy matchup, but not this one in the Black Hole.

NFL News / Seahawks QB Russell Wilson set to match Peyton Manning's record?
« on: December 16, 2012, 12:00:23 PM »
While RG3 and Luck get all of the attention in this great rookie QB class, Russell Wilson is quietly putting together a record-setting season.  The :SEA-NFL: Seahawks signal-caller has 20 TD for the season already which is good for 4th best all-time by a rookie QB.  He has been on a surge lately with 10 TD in the past 5 games.  That pace will give him 26 at the end of the season which would tie Peyton Manning's rookie record!

NFL News / Must Bench Jay Cutler? Here's his stat line against GB...
« on: December 16, 2012, 11:31:38 AM »
Jay Cutler's last game against the Packers?  Here is the stat line: 11 out of 27 for 126 passing yards with one TD and four interceptions.  Green Bay's secondary could be suspect but Cutler is likely a must bench for your fantasy team.

NFL News / Demarcus Ware active against Steelers

« on: December 14, 2012, 09:44:43 PM »
All is not well in Tinsel Town as the :LAL: Los Angeles Lakers were trailing the :WAS-NBA: Washington Wizards tonight.  Do they pull out a comeback win against a 3-win squad or continue their latest demise?

What if you could own shares of multiple teams and win money based on their performance and improvement?  What if you could play in a 30-team league with deep rosters for free (have someone else as the financial owner)?  We have four copies of the same type of 30-team redraft franchise-style league.  Essentially, the entry fees go up by a multiple in each league.  Entry fees vary per team based on the final regular season standing of actual teams last season.

The better you do in the league, the more you can win.  Even if you took over the worst team and just improved its standing year-over-year, you will win money as a result.

You can navigate to links to each of the four leagues and read through the rules at the Park Series home page.  Trading is already going on in these leagues, but your team must have been paid in order to take a GM seat.  Feel free to reply if you have any questions.

MLB News / Reds-Indians-Diamondbacks have blockbuster trade!

ProFSL's Jonathan reports big three-team deal...

The Deal

:CIN: receives
 Shin Soo Choo OF (:CLE:)
 Jason Donald IF (:CLE:)

:CLE: receives
Trevor Bauer SP  (:ARZ:)
Drew Stubbs OF (:CIN:)
RHP Matt Albers (:ARZ:)
RHP Bryan Shaw (:ARZ:)

:ARZ: receives
Didi Gregorious SS (:CIN:)
Tony Sipp RP (:CLE:)
Lars Anderson 1B (:CLE:)

:CIN: -

They did good to get a great leadoff hitter and some more power for Great American Ballpark. They also got rid of Stubbs, which I consider addition by subtraction. Jason David is a MI utility type of player.

The question really comes down to Choo playing in CF, something he has only done one game since 07. I think he does fine, one of the better OF arms in the game and is fast.

They lose Didi, who was a great defensive SS, who was a level up on Hamilton, their super-prospect.  Choo is going to be a FA and isn't signing anywhere before testing the market, so this looks like a deal that will end up putting Hamilton as the everyday CF come start of 2014.

:CLE: - great deal for the Ohio's in this one. Trevor Bauer, the #3 pick in 2011 is on his way. The tribe hope Stubbs can figure his game out, but regardless they were losing Choo after this year, so a great return for them.

:ARZ: - They look like the Cardinals of Arizona in this deal. I am sure there are a bunch of happy fans in the NL West. They just gave away a top pick for a defensive SS. That is quite a price to pay for defense IMO.
