(Another) Red Sox/Dodgers swap
« on: November 21, 2013, 09:16:50 AM »
Red Sox trade:
Nathan Adcock: $500,450 2014, arb 15-16
Dodgers trade:
JaCoby Jones, PC

Red Sox sell low on Adcock following a down year. We have high hopes for JaCoby Jones, but we acknowledge the risk this prospect presents us. Happy with the deal.

Please assign JaCoby Jones to Pawtucket if the trade passes.

Shoot. Looks like he figured out my plan. I have to get something in return for telling him who to draft, though, don't I?

We can joke about it but I voiced my concerns about the Dodgers to the Commish quite a while ago.  Let's review.

First, the Dodgers claimed Carl Crawford off waivers and took $80 million in payroll off your hands for nothing.  This was a nonsensical, horrendous move that benefitted the Red Sox incredibly.  A fifth of your payroll cleared from your books for free.

Second, the Dodgers traded their top three prospects (two of which will likely get significant playing time in the majors this year) on the second worst team in this league to the Red Sox to acquire one pitcher in Jose Fernandez.  The move makes little sense for a bottom dwelling team.

Third, the Dodgers inexplicably cut Chris Withrow for nothing.  An incompetent move by the most kind of assessments.

Now the Dodgers are trading you the 2nd pick in the 3rd round for a middle reliever.  The very same draft in which they have failed to make their own picks which has caused them to be skipped despite the fact they have excellent draft position.

So I'll have to veto this trade based on what appears to be a clear track record of at the very least the worst form of incompetence and at the most some serious collusion.  I'd recommend we find a new owner for the Dodgers or restrict them from making transactions with the Red Sox going forward.  It's one thing to neglect your team with inactivity but it's much worse to actively damage your team in this manner.

I totally agree with Chris here on every account.  He did voice his concerns and I told him it would be something I would watch.

The track record of Boston's very questionable trades with teams other than the Dodgers makes the great deals in favor of Boston with LA very questionable.

Jones was the top ranked 2B by Baseball America that signed out of the 2013 draft.

Adcock has last played in 2012 and had an ERA of 6.67 over 113 inning in AAA in 2013, doubtful he sniffs the majors again at this point.

  • Brent: Agreed.  I have Amon Ra St. Brown and Aiyuk because I traded JJ.  I couldn't have acquired a player like ASB where I was picking in the 1st so I down tiered at WR to make a trio of Chase, ASB and Aiyuk instead of JJ, Chase and fill in the blank.

  • ldsjayhawk: That is probably even more true in baseball since your drafts don't payoff for 5 years or so.  And I will admit my conservatism may be the reason I only have one championship here at ProFSL

  • Brent: I'm contemplating doing a complete tear down in NFL Live and rebuild.  Honestly, I probably should have postered for it to be this season.  I still might, but I would legit need to go into the draft with 3-4 top 10 picks/+ many others.

  • Brent: postured

  • Jwalkerjr88: Yea nailing drafts and some key FAs helps too. But if you remember BAB you traded alvin kamara for the rams 1-7 draft picks. So the extra picks helped you nail the 2023 draft the way you did

  • Jwalkerjr88: Its the combination of all three that is required is what im saying
    Yesterday at 03:13:31 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: And brent a tear down with you assets would look interesting. Personally i just think you need break one big asset down into 3 good ones and move carr and go from there. But you have an A1 nfl mind so im sure you will nail whatever it is you decide

  • BayAreaBallers: very good pt yes i did gain lot of capital which propelled me to make more moves from that trade
    Yesterday at 03:34:25 PM
  • Brent: Thank you.  Yes, I agree.  I do need to break one asset down to 3.  I did that with JJ, went from S tier to 2 A tiers.  Now I need to potentially go from an A tier to 3 Bs or something like that.  I've had some inquiries on Carr, but nothing worth moving him.
