The Nets are doing this out of a need for cap flexibility going forward and gaining young talent to help make up for some of the talent lost. With Lowry, Oubre, KD and Butler, the Nets were going to need to move at least one high salary player and Butler ended up being the player that someone had enough interest in to take. The Nets gain a late 1st (2022) then 2 young players in Banton and Korkmaz.
