I guess the problem is that you all see Poulin as an asset? I looked at him as $3.4M in dead cap. He is not a back up with Halak and then Johnson in the net.

Next problem is your assuming Upshall isn't worth anything because of his Nhl role. In this league he scores vey well.

I am fine with the Veto but think a few of you misread this deal completely.

My initial assessment was that it was a bad deal for Tampa but that GM's should be allowed some leeway to make honest mistakes. However, given the response of other GM's I thought my allowance for making a poor deal was a likely excessive.

To be honest I am still trying to guage the standard for trades in this league. I probably shouldn't have moved off my first impression but I wanted to lend weight to Thunderblade's voice. Mostly because he has the right to Veto, and I am sure he would have used it if he knew that.

I see the deal as $3.4m in Cap Space, Scottie Upshall, and a 3rd For Frankie Corrado and a 1st.

Kevin Poulin may have some value at some point but I see the contract for what it is. The resign value is absurd at somewhere around $5m so this isn't a young asset or goalie of the future worth hanging on to. Not at that price. Further, given his place on the Islanders Depth chart, I doubt there is much to be gained having him on anyone's roster for this season specifically.

Warning - while you were typing a new reply has been posted. You may wish to review your post.

Daddy just chimed in. I was about to say that if he really wanted the deal I'd like to hear him defend it and (since I have waffled this much) maybe I'd teeter back. Mostly though it just seems he is really pissed. Regardless, I'm pulling my Veto. If Thunder really wants to kill it he can do it himself. I was always on the fence to begin with.

Chill Daddy....it is what it is.

Daddy, I understand you are upset and I don't take any offense to what you said.

I approved the Carolina/Tampa deal when I thought that Carolina was getting a better end of that deal, with Schenn outscoring Faulk the past 3 years and both being young d-men. But I understand trying to clear cap and make the most of your assets, so a late 2nd rd pick for about 2m in cap seems pretty fair.

I usually vote on trades right away, and I really waited and deliberated on this one before I ever voted.

I think this is way more lopsided. Even a late 1st rder in a draft this deep will be very valuable. Poulin will most likely be stuck in the AHL this year, and being the last year on his contract, his resign cost is too high, but you can never account for injuries. Also, to buyout Poulin would save 1.2m in cap, not too mention I'm sure some GMs in this league would probably bid on him if bought out and there would be an additional buyout discount. Just look at the money that people dished out to goalies years away for the NHL or ones who may not even make it there.

Corrado is a decent, cheap, depth D-man who is waiver exempt in real life, making him more valuable and more moveable to a team looking to add a D-man which could up his value. Considering our FA market this year, Corrado is on a pretty decent contract.

Upshall has put up decent points in our league in the past, but as a 3rd or 4th line winger on a bottom dwelling Panthers team will those points continue? Upshall will mainly provide veteran mentorship on that team.

The 3rd rd helps bring back more value to TB, but even in deep drafts there is a huge difference between the 30th pick and the 90th pick.

This trade may not be detrimental to the league, but Tampa is one of the weakest minor league systems in the league. This deal helps mortgage the future for a short term minimal gain.

I'm sure this trade can be reworked with slight tweaking, or though other negotiations and moves Tampa can free up the cap it wants.

I think that the Commissioners can overrule me here, but I stand by my view and I'm sorry that it upsets you so much.

The owners that have been around see some options for RW and cap space. I have to agree. Daddy you piled the farm kids into your MLR which took up roster space and cap which is what Jack mentioned. As for cap savings there are a few ways to skin that cat. Izaman and Jack touched on it.

Young goalie for veteran winger that's seen more :DL: symbols beside his name straight up might have passed or not but once you gave up your "a$s wiping toilet paper" of a 1st round draft pick it became an unbalance deal at this pt in time. Poulin might get stuck in the A or bolt for the K but as a Flyer fan you and I know Scottie is likely more fragile than Havlat and Gabby. LOL

:veto:

Draft picks are valuable in FNHL. They are only good for current yr draftees, your drafted prospects can't go up/down, and there are only 4 rounds to our draft. It's one of the best ways to get a great player on a cheap contract while letting the kid mature on your MiLR.

Maybe Poulin's value drops in 1 month but he's 24yo and on a crappy Isles (sorry Johnny they really suck) and still has plenty of upside. I say rework or try another team Daddy.

No one wants to run your team Tampa. We only want clean deals to go through. This deal smells funky because you said you need cap yet both JD and Izzy gave clear cut options on how Tampa can gain cap space easily. The other deal I recall that smelled a little funky was the Brodeur trade but he's grandfather time and pulling a Gordie Howe the Twilight Year Edition unsigned and hoping to play out his final yr on a contender in return for a young backup on a cheap contract as goalies go.

If Poulin is not worth anything to Tampa, buy him out and I guarantee some team will pick him up as a free agent and you can get his buy out discount. That's 3.4 off Tampa's books in addition to what JD said which is another 1.9m in cap savings. 4.3m in cap savings for the Bolts.

In fact, Poulin is likely worth a healthier, younger RW and a 2nd RD. That's my say. Peace!

Sorry Daddy if I hurt your feelings when I gave my opinion on the trade.  There was never any malice intended. But let's be honest here , OK Buddy, Daddyooo.  It was a poorly thought out trade plain and simple...... Thanks for the donation......   :puke:

I had a few friends reach out, who understand I may not be the most liked GM, but appreciate my honesty, I keep it real & raw, too raw for some. Thank you friends.

To clarify, this league punishes those above the cap threshold..avoiding going over the cap this year, while fielding the best 2014/15 :TBL: was the main objective, dealing from a position of strength (Goalie) to open up the ability to strengthen other areas was paramount. Having built such a young team, next years draft has less value to FNHL :TBL: , trading a 3rd string Goalie with a $3.4m tag & $5m resign value allowing for a more diverse and deep roster this season is worth a late 1st imo.

Hearing everyones opinons, agree or disagree, I appreciated the approvals of those who thought I took a beating on this deal, but allowed me to do me.  It means alot to some of us to have the freedom to GM even if we appear to lose on a deal. That's the beauty of fantasy. Im willing to side bet that Upshaw, as much as he sucks will out point Poulin this season..but even if he didnt I cant play 3 Goalies. No matter!

Thanks Ripper for the talks bud, & good luck.  :toth:

I'll get back to this over the weekend.
Decision by Monday.

Some feedback...
Given this is a paid/money league we almost can move away from TC. The Trade Committee was important + critical during the free league days but it still has a role now since some teams pay 5$ while other buyin at upwards of 30$ (might have to adjust that in the future).

That said, if an owner pays for their team(s) and wants to overhaul and target a yr out to start being competitive we may be impeding by vetoing a trade that plays to that owner's longterm objective.

Stay tuned, will post a decision by Monday. :judge:

As long as you have assets, you can mold your build how you want. Picks are usually the most valuable asset because most gms want in on a draft.
