NHL LIVE LEAGUE HANDBOOK
« on: October 25, 2023, 10:20:33 PM »
TANKING
IS NOT ALLOWED
You are invited in this league to try to win. If not? There are other hockey leagues on site more suited to your fantasy sports vision.
You can find them here.
https://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?board=655.0

Our mission is for our GMs to simply run the franchise they have chosen the best they can. The league will run the league. If you like to follow league transactions you can find them in the league Archives.

NHL LIVE teams on fantrax are privately funded & we are only looking for LIVE GMs.
 :iatp:
TRADING
Is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week from the start of the actual NHL League Year until the ACTUAL NHL trade DEADLINE.
When they stop trading. We stop trading. Cash cannot be exchange during trades.
Trades are approved or vetoed based on the 3 panel vote of the League Office & processed immediately after majority vote. Trades are between the trading parties & the league. Competition has no vote.

NHL LIVE Trading opens with the start of the LIVE season after the rollover to our new league year. It continues until the actual NHL Trade deadline of each season.
All Draft Picks (current & next season) are eligible to be traded at that time.

SCORING
It's 25 vs 25 hockey every matchup.
C x4
LW x4
RW x4
D x7
G x2

Scoring formula is multifaceted geared towards rewarding game defining plays true to the overall Hockey experience.

In season tie breakers for playoffs will follow NHL tie breaker formats. (Only if needed overall fantasy points would be the deciding tie breaker.)

Initial Rosters are set from 1/1/2024

No initial contract to exceed (2028) the standard max term of 5 years in LIVE leagues.

No AHL or NHL player can be P-n/a must be P-20XX as defined later.

FA CONTRACT TERMS
5yr deal must be at least $10m AAV
4yr deal must be at least $5.5m AAV
3yr deal must be at least $1m AAV
ALL DENOMINATIONS can be 1 or 2 years.
NHL LIVE FAs signed to 1yr deals cannot be resigned before NHL Week 10.
You can exceed next years cap during the off-season.
All teams must be cap compliant by start of season.
Further Explanation:
NHL LIVE teams have a cap ceiling that fluctuates with the actual NHL's cap every year. This is not fully identified until the next NHL League year begins.

Teams can be $50m over the cap or any denomination during the off-season however if your team is over the cap at the start of the season the league will cut players for you until you are not. [Addressed in the penalty section further down the handbook]
Moving of cap hits, funds, cash, any form of currency movement or minipulation is not allowed.

RESIGN VALUE AAV
Player Contracts that are resigned will start the following season from 1yr extensions up to term limit extensions.
Extension values are based on the highest ranking of the last season with accrued statistics including the current season.
ONCE ANY NEW SEASON BEGINS FROM WEEK 1, A PLAYERS RESIGN IS THE HIGHEST RANKING INCLUDING CURRENT SEASON OR LAST SEASON.
Only contracts in the last year are eligible to be extended. Contracts that expire have no off-season grace period. Expired contracts become Unrestricted FA.
*The deadline to resign expiring contracts is the end of the actual NHL Regular Season. The final whistle of the final game.

RESIGN VALUES AAV (PER YEAR)
NO TERM MINIMUM ALL RESIGNS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR 1 YEAR

ROOKIE WAGE SCALE
In the NHL prospects sign "2 way" contracts that pay them max of $950k & minimum $750k with term limits of 1,2, or 3 years. This applies to all skaters and goalies.

In keeping a dynasty format that people have familiarity with we will be using the P-n/a, P-2024, P-2025, and next season P-2025, P-2026, the following season P-2026, P-2027 and so forth and so on.

The ONLY P-n/a are minors players (juniors) on fantrax indicated by green on fantrax in minors.

Every bench player (AHL) on fantrax that qualifies as P-n/a should be P-2025 for this upcoming season and beyond.

Resigning a player on a prospect contract gives you a 10% discount on the resign value that is to be rounded up to the nearest $100k.

If a player gets called up from the juniors he loses P-n/a permanently & becomes P-20XX immediately. He can no longer be sent to juniors and must be resigned before his prospect contract expires or he will become UFA.

Players Qualify for PC bid, P-n/a contracts, and placement in the juniors, until a player has played 82 NHL regular season games.

Players who are signed as PC via "PC bid" are automatically placed on juniors and a spot must be available at the time of the bid.

Players must appear on Fantrax and not be part of the upcoming draft class.

The NHL LIVE Draft will take place annually one week to the hour after the actual NHL Draft with all players being placed on juniors and a spot available needed to make any draft selection prior to the selection or the pick is voided and the team will be skipped.

That last part will result in immediate GM review for replacement.
All P- (prospect contracts) on AHL or NHL will count as a $500k cap hit.

Free Agency
FA Starts: 10/1/Every Year 8PM EST
note*
Teams can only bid what they have available.

Open Roster spot required for any FA bid.
Finances must be available to back any bid or open bids in combination.

Any team with an illegal roster cannot make an eligible bid.

Every teams SS should be up to date. Please post any and all discrepancy between your fantrax and your SS.

Failure to have a legal roster both on fantrax and profsl by 10/1 (NHL LIVE FA) means you cannot make a legal bid until the roster is legal.

Fantrax will tell you why your roster is illegal for scoring.
The SS tells you financial and roster integrity legality.
Both must be in harmony prior to 10/1 start of every season.

24 hours as highest bidder wins the bid.
Ends: AT THE END OF OUR REGULAR SEASON EACH YEAR (Roster Freeze)

Eligible Players:
All players currently in the NHL or AHL not on an NHL LIVE team.
[no college or HS players]

Bid Clock: 24 Hours
Minimum initial bid: $500K or PC
Minimum yearly salary: $500K
Minimum Bid Increment: $500K until $50M+ total. $5M when @ $50M+ total.
I.E.
$1M > $1.5M > $2M
$50M > $55M > $60M
No editing of bids is permitted. Make note these are Minimum bid increments, bids may be raised above minimums.

Player Posting
To make it easier to search the board, post players in the following format.
Position - First Last - Team
Example:  C - Connor Bedard - CHI
This will make the board look clean and organized.

After a bid is won.
The contract must be specified or the league will specify it after 24 hours.

PC Bid
*Will be awarded immediately as long as the bid is first to be valid
Reminders*
Player must be on PC contract to be on Junior Hockey League Affiliate.
[only eligible players qualify] There is no bonus pool.

Releasing Players Under Contract
All contracts are Guaranteed, you may release a player at any time but cap hits apply.
CAP HITS ARE APPLIED TO ANY CONTRACT AT OR OVER $1M ANNUAL @ the rate of 100%/50% X X X.
Years 3, 4, or 5 would be voided for dynasty league purposes.

Suspended players can be released at 100%/X X X X of current contract.

Retired Players = no cap hit to release
New Ownership = no cap hit to release

Placing A Player On Injured Reserve
[Will only gain a team roster spot and the ability to have up to 50 rostered players on AHL/NHL >>  Cap Salary still applies.]
*Players only qualify for IR when on the actual NHL IR.

Penalties
Are at the discretion of the league.

Being over the salary cap:
24 hours to get under cap on your own.
After 24 hours the league will get you under the cap. Mandatory Release will start with the highest paid players until the team is cap compliant.

Fantrax:
The league will fix & optimize rosters on fantrax when needed. Failure to maximize your own roster can lead to anything from cap penalties to replacing you as a GM.

The league wants you to run your teams operations. Every aspect. If we have to do it for you, we should both consider other options.

For any clarifications or feedback please contact the league office of moderators.

  • Brent: And that's why I haven't traded Carr yet.  Someone doesn't have a QB or thinks they'll get one in FA/draft and might be left wanting.
  • Daddy: @Alpha if a team in MLB LIVE has two starting 1Bs then there is also a team without one.
  • ldsjayhawk: @jwalker I make like 2-3 trades a year for each of my baseball teams, maybe.  I'll tell you part of the reason I don't trade.  Every trade discussion starts out with the other team wanting my top prospect regardless of what I am trading for.  I am not trading Jackson Holliday for your backup catcher who is going to play 20 games this year.
  • Alpha5: Nah cause position eligibility. 1B/OF, 1B,3B etc
    Today at 11:02:48 AM
  • Daddy: CB/S >> DE/LB >> Taysom Hill QB/TE
    Today at 12:06:43 PM
  • Daddy: Football is just harder. You can build a team and 3 years later its irrelevant due to injury, retirement, roster turnover.
  • Alpha5: @ldsjayhawk I get the frustration but you're gonna have to get over that man haha
    Today at 12:29:52 PM
  • Alpha5: And maybe you should trade Jackson Holiday lolol
    Today at 12:32:00 PM
  • Brent: In an offsite league, I inquired about Mason Miller and the guy asked for Jackson Holliday.
  • dbreer23: Is it like a 4 team redraft league?
  • dbreer23: Cris, there is a reason that you are a good owner, bc you can discern a value deal vs. a BS deal. Not all owners are that savvy. They will eventually leave...
  • Brent: Nope, 32-team contract league.
  • ldsjayhawk: I don't have Holiday.  Just used him as an example since he was the #1 prospect
    Today at 12:56:05 PM
  • ldsjayhawk: @Alpha I do make trades.  I am just not giving up the entire farm to land a guy I can get out of the FA pool
    Today at 12:59:21 PM
  • ldsjayhawk: Trading should be a win-win situation for both teams.
  • dbreer23: Agreed. I think the Devers deal in FGM is a good example of that. Devers gives SD some now (and future) pop, giving up substantial pieces to get him (Mayo, Keith, and one other).
  • Brent: I had Holliday in FGM before I stepped away.
  • Brent: I am glad I cut back on leagues, I was spread too thin.
  • Jwalkerjr88: @idsjayhawk i understand that. To be clear, i wasnt judging anyone. I just know in NFL Live, you cant just draft 1-7 rds every year and sign a few FAs and be the champion. It wont happen
    Today at 01:52:08 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: Trading isnt easy. But neither is winning
    Today at 01:52:22 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: If you made a list of the most aggressive gms to have stepped foot in nfl live, you will notice the champions will be among them
    Today at 01:53:06 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: You arent gonna win every trade and you HAVE to have a plan. Ive made some horrible trades. I have every year
    Today at 01:53:50 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: Carolina has kyren williams right now cause i traded him for a 2nd and a 4th. Id rather have kyren today lol
    Today at 01:54:28 PM
  • Brent: Agreed.  I have Amon Ra St. Brown and Aiyuk because I traded JJ.  I couldn't have acquired a player like ASB where I was picking in the 1st so I down tiered at WR to make a trio of Chase, ASB and Aiyuk instead of JJ, Chase and fill in the blank.
  • ldsjayhawk: That is probably even more true in baseball since your drafts don't payoff for 5 years or so.  And I will admit my conservatism may be the reason I only have one championship here at ProFSL
    Today at 02:10:04 PM
  • BayAreaBallers: jwalkerjr88 is right
  • BayAreaBallers: on that u havat trade a bit here and there
    Today at 02:25:57 PM
  • BayAreaBallers: although my last draft class and fa class kinda lead me to a run so it can happen
    Today at 02:27:21 PM
  • Brent: Yeah, it does help to have a big draft class and available cap.
  • Brent: I'm contemplating doing a complete tear down in NFL Live and rebuild.  Honestly, I probably should have postered for it to be this season.  I still might, but I would legit need to go into the draft with 3-4 top 10 picks/+ many others.
  • Brent: postured
  • Jwalkerjr88: Yea nailing drafts and some key FAs helps too. But if you remember BAB you traded alvin kamara for the rams 1-7 draft picks. So the extra picks helped you nail the 2023 draft the way you did
    Today at 03:13:02 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: Its the combination of all three that is required is what im saying
    Today at 03:13:31 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: And brent a tear down with you assets would look interesting. Personally i just think you need break one big asset down into 3 good ones and move carr and go from there. But you have an A1 nfl mind so im sure you will nail whatever it is you decide
    Today at 03:14:39 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: *your
  • BayAreaBallers: very good pt yes i did gain lot of capital which propelled me to make more moves from that trade
    Today at 03:34:25 PM
  • Brent: Thank you.  Yes, I agree.  I do need to break one asset down to 3.  I did that with JJ, went from S tier to 2 A tiers.  Now I need to potentially go from an A tier to 3 Bs or something like that.  I've had some inquiries on Carr, but nothing worth moving him.
  • Alpha5: Guarantee I know who he traded Kamara to for 1-7 without even looking
    Today at 05:22:42 PM
  • BayAreaBallers: alpha it was a good trade at the time
    Today at 05:29:49 PM
  • BayAreaBallers: my team was in the Crapter at that pt
    Today at 05:29:58 PM
  • Brent: Who did you draft with the 1st acquired in that trade?
  • Daddy: Whoever it was, he got six more choices on top of that. The "win win" scenario.
  • Daddy: At that time i had no RB1. So i traded an entire draft class to get one.
  • Daddy: SF doubled up his pick haul and went to work, using them in trades & draft return.
  • Daddy: Then beat me in the NFC Title game.
  • Daddy: RB is a hard position to nail down. If someone wants to trade me 1-7 for Kamara. Step right up.
  • BayAreaBallers: I gotta see what I did
    Today at 06:05:04 PM
  • Daddy: You got better
  • BayAreaBallers: i did so many moves trades and draft that i honestly dunno
    Today at 06:18:48 PM
  • Jwalkerjr88: This is the way
