CI/MI Mike Moustakas #23 MI 2019 $4.0m, $9.0m x 70% = $6.3m @ 2 years
MI/OF Adam Frazier #26 MI 2019 $4m. $4.0m @ 3 years
I know it’s a bit of a hassle, but when awarding extensions, we have to look at a player’s ranking for each eligible position. Sometimes, as in Moustakas case, he is ranked higher as a MI than a CI, but when extending a player, we need to go with the extension that is larger in salary. With Moustakas, his higher rank as a CI vs as an MI, didn’t really matter because of the 70% rule. In both scenarios, his new contract would be $6.5m, but only for 2 years.
Adam Frazier’s situation is quite different. He is an MI/OF, so while he is ranked as a #26 MI in 2019 ($4.0m), his eligibility as an OF must also be checked. As an OF, he is ranked #10 in 2019, which is (OF-10 $10.0 Kiermaier, Kevin). Therefore, as a (P-2019) player, he is eligible for a 60% discount—which means his extension must either be $6.0m (2024) or $10.0m (2021).
Please let me know if you want to sign Adam Frazier for $6.0m (2024) or $10m (2021) or just release him.
