RC - Please Weigh in on the Prado Waiver Claim

[Daniel]

I am not part of the RC, but I do believe waivers are similar to FA bids and extensions. These have a hard cap set. Many times I have had FA bids lost because they were a couple of minutes past the 72hour deadline. Same happened with extensions. And I have always had very erratic internet access here in Venezuela. It sucks, but if exceptions are going to be made regarding this kind of issues, then there needs to be a rule for those exceptions as well. I do believe some issues which are less important can have a 'soft' clock as has been mentioned many times, but player ownership issues should have 'hard' deadlines. Also, by placing a player on waivers, a team knowingly assumes the risk of losing said player, so I do not think waiver claims are different from extensions or FA bids. All three are simply player ownership issues. Again, I am not part of the RC, so this is just an opinion.

Prado should go to :BOS:. It's going to set a really bad precedent going forward if teams are allowed to bend this rule. There is also a question of what a good grace time period is. If 20 minutes is ok, then is 21? If 60 minutes is not ok, then is 59?

 :iatp:

This post pretty much sums up my opinion on deadlines.  Why have deadlines if they are not going to be enforced?  Allowing a team to go over makes a future gray area that will just cause more problems.  Deadlines should be strict and enforced.

Agree with Howe and Shooter here, also.

It is time to move forward on this one, because it has far-reaching effects on other waiver moves.  The Red Sox are being awarded Martin Prado with no compensation due to the Braves.

Brings up another question...can Boston take on a 13.5 million hit?

The answer is yes I have had it all planed out in case he was a dump of salary arod was first move towards it

I'm undecided on this. I'm a believer in firm dates, but also recognize this is meant to be fun and it sounds like this was a lot more genuine than just blatant tardiness.

I'll support the commish on this.
