In order to calculate an extension the player you must first determine his rank. The time frames used depend on the time of year (See below)
OFFSEASON (2020-21): 2019 and 2020 rankings are used
REGULAR SEASON, PRE-JULY 31ST (2021): 2019, 2020, and 2021 rankings are used
REGULAR SEASON, AFTER JULY 31ST (2021): 2020 and 2021 rankings are used
OFFSEASON (2016-2017); 2015 and 2016 rankings are used
1.) Ranking is done on Fantrax. In the left column, click on the 4th button down "Players"
Set filters to the following:
Stats- This is the year (YTD) that you want to rank the player.
Status/Team- Use the pulldown, change to "All"
At the bottom of the white box select the position of the player being ranked
From here you scroll down until you find the player. You must physically count from the top to determine the rank. Save this number, you may need it. This is his player ranking for the year you selected in "Stats"
Now go back to "Stats" and change to the next year necessary and repeat the above procedure. The highest of the ranks determine the contract.
2.) On the FGM home page click on "Contracts, located just above the team logos at the top. From there, scroll to the position of the player and then the ranking. Along with that ranking is a dollar amount- If this is a regular contract (non-prospect) this is the yearly amount of the players contract. Go to item 3 below. If this is s Prospect Contract (P-20xx or 1st, 2nd or 3rd) you can use this amount or grant a Prospect Extension.
Discounts are given as below:
20XX (3rd) - 60%
20XX+1 (2nd)- 50%
20XX+2 (1st)- 40%
20XX+3, n/a (2050)- 30%
Multiply the contract amount by correct discount amount to determine the yearly contract amounts.
Note:Prospect contracts must be at least $4m/year and a 5 year duration.
3.) To determine contract length go to "Salary/Term Limits" located in the Sticky section on the FGM home page. Scroll down to the yearly dollar amount of the contract to find the allowable number of years
4.) Regular extensions go into effect when the current contract expires. Prospect contracts go into effect the year after they are granted. If granted during the off-season they take affect immediately.
