The Cubs are pleased to announce that they have agreed to terms on a 5-year contract extension with phenom SP Stephen Strasburg which will go into effect following the 2012 season. The contract guarantees Strasburg $4m dollars per season starting in 2013 and running through 2017. Early reports are that Strasburg has agreed to the extension, despite the recommendations of his agent, Scott Boras. It is also being reported that during the negotiations, the Cubs GM told Mr. Boras to "Go scratch," which prompted the super-agent to excuse himself from the negotiations. It is too early to say what effect this will have on the Cubs ability to negotiate with Boras' clients during the upcoming free agent period.
