For the record, I am officially delaying my request to extend Yordano Ventura if it is being held to today's interpretation of the rules by Flash.
Also, please keep in mind that the recent Cards extensions for Yasmani Grandal, Salvador Perez, and Chris Carter were processed according to the historical interpretation of the rules, not the one posed by Flash today.
For the record, tradition is great, but it doesn't mean we are locked into doing things as we have in the past if they go against our established rules. The Cardinals' extensions were processed as you say, and the Ventura extension could be done too and no one would be the wiser, but it's time for us, as a league, to start following the rules we have in place.
There has to be a starting point, and the Rangers are not harmed by the enforcement of the rule, so whether or not this rule was honored in the past is of no consequence at the moment. I'm not worried about how things were done in the past, because quite frankly, as a regular member, I didn't really pay attention to what past commissioners did, or didn't do.
I do know that when i became co-commissioner it was not to engage in any power struggles or comment on past administrations. Like BHows, my goal was to establish a degree of stability in FGM and I think it's time for us to utilize the rules we have in place and develop new ones as the situation arises.
This is really not a major deal and I hope we can move forward.
