With the Senators having hired 2 New General Managers over the past few months, this is a team in turmoil. The team was plagued with underachieving stars, Spezza, Alfredsson, Kovalev and Gonchar to name a few. Not the ideal situation for a GM to enter into.
Enter GM Eric MacLachlan. He has already dealt perennial non-contributor Kovalev and is also letting it be known he is in the market to make a lot more trades.
"I don't know what Bryan Murray was thinking when he assembled this team but it is quite a mess. That being said we were staying somewhat relevant but I didn't see the pieces in place to make a long run. Moving Brian Elliot was tough but I feel that the return we got was too good to pass up. We got some high rick high reward players back, but also some highly touted prospects. We are going to rebuild this team the right way, even though it may take a few years, we want this team to last. Senators fans have always been teased but never really given a team to grab hold of. If they will give me the time I will bring this team to a stage they can celebrate."
In other news the Senators have relieved the entire Senators coaching staff of their duties and made, to say the least, some surprising announcements as to their replacements.
The Ottawa Senators have hired former Team Canada regular Cassie Campbell to take over the reigns of the Ottawa Senators. Assisting Campbell will be former teammate Haley Wickenheiser as well as former Stanley Cup Winner Mike Keenan. The Senators were considering hiring Pierre McGuire or Mike Milbury for their assistant GM position, but figured a Monkey throwing Darts at a dart board would have a better success rate, and wouldn't be nearly as annoying.
"Campbell brings a wealth of big game experience as well as tons of toughness which we are sorely lacking. She will start by focusing on teaching Chris Neil what it actually means to not be a chicken S&*T. After that she will be focusing on Spezza's laziness and has asked Daniel Alfredsson to never make another prediction again, as I think he's about 0 for 1000. We are still searching for a Goaltending consultant as the only resume we recieved was from Dan Cloutier, and well frankly, we would like to have good goaltending in the playoffs too."
