MN gives:
SS - Manny Machado (MiLB - BAL #1 Prospect)
8th round pick (2012 Amateur Draft)

TOR gives:
SP - Julio Teheran (Team Control through 2016)
C - A.J. Jimenez (MiLB - TOR #9 Prospect)
$6M Cash (2012)

Minnesota does this deal because we are true believers in Teheran.  We think this kid will be the next stud ace in the league.  We also like Jimenez a lot.  Jimenez is a very talented catching prospect who we like a lot.  He reminds us quite a bit of Yadier Molina: masterful defense and should hit for a very good average.  Who knows, he might even develop some decent power.

We obviously like Machado quite a bit, so it was unfortunate that we had to give him up.  We have two "digs" on him though.

1.  There is an OK chance that he might end up moving to 3rd which would obviously hurt his value a bit.
2.  The Orioles have been terrible at grooming minor league players in recent years.

Nevertheless, Machado is extremely talented and most evaluators have him above Teheran in prospect lists and obvious Toronto does, as well.
We had to give up an 8th round pick in this deal, which wasn't that big of a deal for us.
We were also able to snag 6M dollars in this deal, which will certainly help us out and give us a bit of flexibility.

Thanks for the pleasant negotiations like always, Matt.

2014-2016 is why I do this deal, I plan on being a major player throughout that window. Adding the best middle infield prospect in the game to Heyward, Lawrie, D'Arn and Marisnick gives me goosebumps and makes me giddy about not only my immediate future but well into the decade. I'd love to retain Teheran as a BlueJay but it was going to take some real bait to land that big fish. And the pitching depth in my orginazation is such that a loss of this magnitude is absorbable. And I agree Machado might end up at third but not while he's under my initial team control.

Once Jiminez gets traded (if), he should be good for you.  Along with Teheran, two good to great prospects for one known great prospect at a thin position plus a high first rounder.  Good by me.

Per Kenny's comments on the Minnesota / Baltimore trade, the trade is not valid until Minnesota clears cap space.  Until that trade goes through, I cannot vote to approve this trade.

just proceed with this trade as it is a valid trade, then the other can readdressed in a lawful manner

I'm sorry guys.  I should have explained this better.  Kenny confronted me about the cap space issue the other day.  This deal will correct that issue.  The 6M in cash was included in the trade for that specific purpose.

I don't see how this trade can proceed without legally obtaining rights to the player being traded.  I am not trying to be a pain, but if this is allowed, I am afraid it might yield chaos.

My vote will be no unless the other trade is completed first.

Very fair.  We shall wait upon a verdict from Kenny.

  • Daddy: Honestly i love the deal because my GMs love it. I dont say good deal bad deal or i like this side better.  My goal is to provide a fair platform where people are free to trade and not be judged because nobody knows for sure how these trades will play out. Lots of ACLs are gonna tear between now and new years.  Im always happy that two strangers with different backgrounds can meet in our league and enjoy freedom to be themselves and do what THEY THINK is best. I love every deal. (Had to share that @Braves) :toast:
