Rockies/Twins Trade

The Colorado Rockies and the Minnesota Twins have reached an agreement on a trade. The details:

Twins receive: Chad Bettis SP Advanced Class A
                      Rosell Herrera SS/3B Rookie League


Rockies receive: Scott Baker 7M '12 -the final year on contract
                         4M Cash

The Rockies have many holes to fill on the 40 man active roster. My intention was to add a quality SP without eating up a ton of cap space. With Baker I assume some risk from a health standpoint......however by receiving the 4M in the deal I think it is a risk well worth taking. The prospects are very talented but in my opinion they are a considerable distance from making a major league contribution........so the Twins are taking on some risk as well. This is a win-win deal.

Minnesota accepts.

First of all, we would like to wish Scott Baker the best of luck over in Colorado.  Coors is a tough park to pitch in and he's a fly-ball pitcher, but we are confident that he will succeed along side Pomeranz.

We are quite happy to have the opportunity to acquire both Chad Bettis and Rosell Herrera.  We are really excited to see what Bettis can do down the road in our pitcher haven up here in Minnesota.  He has a good amount of upside, though he's still a couple years away from the Majors.

Our scouts are also excited about Rosell Herrara as well.  He is still very, very young.  But he has a ton of upside.  He almost certainly will need to move off shortstop, but his switch-hitting offensive production will likely make up for the move.

All in all, we are very happy we could bring in a couple good prospects for Baker before we lost him to free agency.  He will come very cheap for Colorado and will certainly produce.
