Hi all. Just a few questions from the rookie.  :toth:
I've read the rules but just need further clarifications:
1. Is free agency closed until after the next rookie draft?
2. Can trades still occur? and
3. When do Cap Adjustments for 2022 drop off the my Expenses?

I'm sure i'll have more q's later but that can wait.

Thanks. Enjoying looking over a new team

1. Yes free agency closes at start of playoffs and opens again after the rookie draft is over.

2. Trades are currently closed but re-open at the start of the offseason

3. I roll the rosters over to the next year around May/June so any expenses would be removed then for those in 2021-22.

We are in a weird in between seasons place and in the middle of modifying the rules as it pertains to cash exchanges so I was hoping to get some clarifications on what can happen at this time.

1) Can trades still be made with cash exchanges per the old/current rules while new ones are decided?

2) If trades are made now do they need to work and comply with the salary cap in the 2022-2023 season or are we still working with the 2021-2022 season salary cap?

1. No trades can be made involving cash exchanges until the vote is decided

2. The 2021-22 season is over. Trades have to work under the 2022-23 cap to be allowed.

Hello,
About offseason, is it ok to go over the roster limit?, but ofcourse not over the cap its just the roster limit where we have morethan 12 players on active roster in the offseason.

I feel we already have this, but its an unwritten rule.

It's kind of an unwritten rule. You can't go over cap but roster is fine

So must you be under or at the cap at the beginning of the season? Or as before where you can be over but show an intent to decrease?

You have to be under by the start of the regular season. During off season, if you are over cap to start, every move needs to be clear cap (outside of draft picks)

You have to be under by the start of the regular season. During off season, if you are over cap to start, every move needs to be clear cap (outside of draft picks)

Does this mean you cannot extend a player if you are over the cap? For example, Utah Jazz is $31.7m over the cap limit at the moment. Utah has 8 players on the final year of their contract. Can Utah extend those players since the extension starts next year or does that constitute a move that is not allowed as it does not clear cap in the current year?

Also, I guess I am confused about having to be at the cap limit by the start of the regular season. Does that mean that teams like Oklahoma City (currently $55.2m over the cap) and Utah Jazz (currently 31.7m over the cap) have to shed that much cap space before the start of the regular season?

A previous clarification stated there was no deadline to go back under the cap as long as each move when you are over the cap is to get you below the cap. I made the Anthony Davis trade based on the previous clarification below on February 7th, 2021. If I have to now be under the cap by the start of next season that trade is a trade I never would have made. I'll abide by it as to not screw over New Orleans Pelicans if the rule did actually change to include a deadline when it previously did not.

Also, can all the rules about going over the cap, deadlines to get under the cap and clarifications on prohibited transactions while over the cap be added to the rules?

I have another request for clarification related to the question above that still needs to be answered.
Can a team go over the cap just when re-sign a player or also through a trade (for example, I have $5m cap space in 2021 and 2022 and I buy a $30m player with 2021 contract fully paid)?

Quote
It’s all the same. It doesnt matter if it’s by trade or resign, you can go over the cap in future years. There is no deadline when you have to be back under. However if say you are over cap next year, as soon as the off season starts, EVERY move made has to be made to clear cap (meaning any trade has to send out more cap then you bring back and you will not be able to participate in FA until under the cap).
