Also contributing to the fact is that players can break into the league a lot easier rather than goalies, and in the league there might be 40 very good C when there are prob 20 very good G. I wouldnt like to see this league changed too mcuh as I think its one of the best, if not the best, leagues here on ProFSL

True. Something probably needs to be done in the future though as goalies are worth (as seen in the example before) almost double as much as skaters.

I believe when u raised the extension values you did make it more even not in the short term but in the long term I would like to see this come up in maybe 2-3 years once all the goalies need to be resigned and ppl have to start making decisions on who to keep and who to get rid of as noone is going to be able to afford 4 all star goalie the way the extensions are now

I do not believe there should be a cap on goalies. The problem lies on the value of fantasy points that the goalies can attain. To me personally it is way out of whack. It is out of proportion to what can be achieved by forwards or dmen. Lets roll it back like Walmart...lol. The FA bidding for goalies was just rediculous, 10 mil for Reimer, come on, get serious. To me the goalie fantasy value is the one weak link to a otherwise  incredibly well run and mucho enjoyable league.

This is the way I see it.

1) Nothing can be done this year, so everything will stay the same.
2) It would not be fair to lower the goalie fantasy points. Some goalies got bigger contracts do to the thinking they have these higher point values. (If you drop the value then you have to compensate owners for over bidding)

I like the idea of dropping teams to a limit of 3 or 4 goalies in the future.

6 Goalies - 2011-12
5 Goalies - 2012-13
4 Goalies - 2013-14 (drop fantasy values?)
3 Goalies - 2014-15? (drop fantasy values?)

I think this would be the best way to work it in and all teams would have a fair chance at making adjustments for their team.

It is just the beginning of the season and in actuality the first full season of Backyard, let us see what the season unfolds as the first weeks of NHL has been full of surprises.

I like Tonys idea as he wrote down where I could not

I also agree that something needs to be done about the goalies.  I would be in favor of going down to 3.  I think we need to do this faster than 4 years.

I also favor tweaking the fantasy points for goalies down for next season, but do understand the point made that some were overbid based on our current system.  Then maybe we should cap either the number of starts per week or the total min played per week for goalies, this could also apply to skaters.  Some weeks, due to the NHL schedule, you can end up really short changed on minutes or the opposite.  Its tough to compete if your on the short end for min, or goalie starts for the week.

True the FA bidding was quite crazy. I don't think I would ever pay 10m for any player in this league but some people will and could therefore get say 5 of the top goalies in free agency and then go with plugs up front. Something maybe more realistic and more like the real NHL would be to have minimums on the number of players each team must have:

Roster Limits
Teams have four different “roster” limits to balance under the league’s regulations; a 20-player “dressed list” for games, a 23-player active NHL roster, a 50-contract maximum, and a 90-player maximum reserve list.

NHL teams are only allowed to dress a maximum of 20 players – 18 skaters and two goaltenders – for any given game, but those 20 must come from the 23-player active roster.

So having a minimum amount of players at each position would be a small step in that direction. Our roster size is increased from 20 to 25 for a night so therefore I would say a fair analyze is:
NHL teams are only allowed to dress a maximum of 25 players – 22 skaters and 3 goaltenders.
This is based on the current NHL rosters being 90% skaters and 10% goalies

This is the way I see it.

1) Nothing can be done this year, so everything will stay the same.
2) It would not be fair to lower the goalie fantasy points. Some goalies got bigger contracts do to the thinking they have these higher point values. (If you drop the value then you have to compensate owners for over bidding)

2013-14 is a fair year to project this change. I think 3-4 goalies would be respectable.

There is also the Rebel idea as well, that being that we have a goalie max over a certain salary.

Yes it is the beginning of the season but we know based on fantasy points that goalies are more important then skaters thus far.

Goalies can influence a game more then a skater so therefore they always need to be a bit more valuable.

1) something was done when Drew raised the extension value we haven't seen the effects of this because we have not had an extension period since he raised them

2)I am and never will be a fan of capping where you can spend your cap this will only make players go for even more then they already are and you will see a lot more people going for 10m because people will have more to spend because they can't spend on goalies. Take my team and knock 3 goalies off and I will have close to 10m more to bid up players because you guys tell me I can't spend it where I want too. Some team is going to be stuck with 3 or 4 back ups and a starter is going to hit FA and he won't be able to go after him because of the he can't have more then 3 or 4 goalies. That sounds stupid to me. We all started with a Starting goalie and we all had our chance at starting goalies in FA and I even offered to move Brzygalov without a starting goalie coming back and not one person as taken that offer.

3) I totally disagree that a team can not be competitive if they do not have a strong starting goalie and my proof is Montreal last year they just about won their division and had Mike Smith, and Ondrej Pavelec has his goalies.
