Exactly why I would like to see it as more of a gradual thing maybe 0.5m every year or something like that I know that I planned to spend so much on FA's so I can resign everyone and now I have to readjust it all. I know I just about took on a goalie that was about to expire with the thought that I might be able to get him a better cheaper but now he will be way more
Ya i have like 6 major guys to resign (Stewart, Crawford, Subban, Butler, Kunitz, Cogliano....) with this raise I'll be lucky to get 2 or 3 most likely. I just made some big trades to help try to free a small amount of cap thinking I might be able to fit 4 of the 6 at least. Just really changes how I planned my team out from the end of the season until now.
That was the point of doing this. Personally, I like the idea, and I do not think it is too drastic as we have until February to figure everything out. I am all for more rotation in free agency and rosters, as that will help keep the league fresh, interesting, and dynamic.
Ya like I said im up for keeping it fresh, but when you plan your roster moves for an entire off season to put yourself in a good position for the extension period and then it gets changed it kind of sucks, im sure if you were in the same situation you might think a little bit otherwise! All the same im in for the betterment of the league, and I am sure I can manage (I was like 20 million over the cap after the draft!!!!) but still sucks when you put months of work in and then have to re-tool it all again because of a change we didnt know was coming!
There can't be special treatment to teams that choose to sign goalies to 1 year deals. I say we either leave it this way or we grandfather it in.
