New League - FGM Spin-Off
« on: March 07, 2011, 04:59:21 PM »
To all current and future members,

Kris (Kdoc09) and I are trying to assemble a new league that will be a spin-off of the Franchise GM brand name. The current name of this league will be RFGM, or Retro Franchise GM - name subject to change.

The gist of this league will almost be exact to that of FGM. There will be several minor changes, and a few major changes. More information on the minor changes will be available once the league page is set up. The major difference between this league, and FGM is that we are going by the old four division format. Meaning that the Rockies, Rays, D'Backs, and Marlins have now been retracted. Those players from those teams will be entered into the first ever retraction draft, which will follow the draft order of the upcoming entry draft.

Rosters will be according to the current MLB 40 man rosters. After a GM has been chosen, he will be allowed to choose 10 prospects from his teams minor league system, to fill out that teams EDR. Anyone not chosen will become a free agent. Each team will be allowed to cut up to 15 million in payroll without penalty. Each player cut, grants you a pick in the retraction draft. The draft will only be four rounds, so if you cut more than 3 players, you will still only get 3 picks. After your gratis salary slash has been processed, same rules apply as FGM, for players cut while under contract.

Contracts will be the same as in FGM. As I said, once we have a full league, their will be a few tweaks made to the FGM rules, but nothing major. Lastly, and this is a major part of this league, you have to be a fan of the team you take over. If your team has already been taken, then please request another, and a reason why you should be considered for it. Proximity, favorite player(s), etc.

If you are unaware of what the divisions looked like back in the day, please follow this link...
http://www.shrpsports.com/mlb/stand/1986finaldiv.htm

Teams already claimed...
Mets - Me
Angels - Kris
White Sox - Jake
Pirates - Colby
Yanks - Roy
Reds - Rick (Bhows)
Giants - Flash - only one man for that job
Braves - Millertime
Brewers - Corey -
Instance where a favorite team was picked, but he has a proximity to Miller Park, likes the Brewers, and hates the Cubs.

This is just another way for us to expand on the FGM brand, so please post below if you would like to be considered for a GM position.

Contracts will be the same as in FGM.
So the contracts will be as of the current point in time and won't be as of season end 2010? E.g., Justin Upton would have a 5 year contract?

I will tak the Red Sox.

Since the Braves have been taken, I would like to apply for the Royals.  They are being built by a GM (and now a manager) who learned the Braves' system of building through a strong farm system.  They should be competitive in the very near future.

Well I'd say I am the bigger Sawx fan but that's a tough argument to prove.  First come first serve goes to Howe though so it's up to him.

One of the stipulations of our league is that we want fans of either a team, player etc...What me and Kris are trying to establish here is a true caring for the colors that you will be representing. For instance, if I was not able to get the Mets, the Blue Jays or Rangers would have been my next choice. Josh Hamilton is my favorite player, and I follow the Blue Jays throughout the year because of Lind and Snider. Guys I have followed since they were still prospects.

If I had to prove my team affiliation or fandom, I have many memories that can easily be put into words... if one does not feel comfortable posting them, they can PM them to me.

Howe is a great GM, and very knowledgeable. I think very highly of him. I would be more than happy to give him a team, but with the Red Sox, I know there are many die-hards out there, that would not only run the team, but adopt it as well. I hope this all makes sense as to what we are trying to accomplish with this league. And I think FGM, is the perfect format for it to be in.

It's cool, Chris can have the Red Sox. I thought it would be fun to play with a big market team, that's all. Can I get the Jays then since I am Canadian and I am big fan of what Alex Anthopoulos have done? For the record, while I do follow some teams very closely (Pirates, Rockies, Twins), I don't really have a rooting interest for any of them.

  • Rhino7: So by winning NCAAF you are guaranteed a team, do you boot someone to make room or what? I’m just speaking as if all GMs were actually active.
  • Daddy: In my experience there is always "someone" that should be booted. They dont get booted because most leagues struggle at filling membership. NFL LIVE is so popular i could legit have an NFL LIVE 2 and it would be filled instantly.
  • Daddy: Doing that would diminish what NFL LIVE is. Which is why we created NCAA. NCAA supports those wanting an NFL LIVE franchise but cannot get in because we have franchise "holding" GMs.
  • Daddy: A "holding" GM is barely active. Never has a chance to win it all and responds to pms from peers after weeks or even months.
  • Daddy: If someone wins a 64 team LIVE league. NCAA or not. As hard as it is to win a LIVE league. And we gave all 32 NFL LIVE GMs the chance to win that very same league. Then hell yes. If need be. Some 2-15 GM or likewise that we KNOW isnt doing all they can to get better will be in jeopardy of being replaced.
  • BayAreaBallers: essentially this is a feeder for the NFL NBA. gives gusy a chance to prove they can be active and at least do whats needed so that they are considered for nba and nfl live leagues
    Today at 03:19:29 PM
  • Daddy: These leagues arent created and paid for so people can hold them and not do Crap. The purpose is to have the best Dynasty GMs in the world test themselves on an even and realistic playing field. You win a LIVE league. You are a made Man. Period.
  • Daddy: @BAB exactly. They are feeder leagues.
  • BayAreaBallers: with it being 64 ppl the talent pool for possible replacmenets is high
    Today at 03:21:01 PM
  • BayAreaBallers: and gives you enough to assess
    Today at 03:21:13 PM
  • Daddy: The NCAA League concepts are much simpler. No trading in college. Its recruit, set lineups and go. But the recruiting is essential to winning. A dummy wont win. No dummy will ever win LIVE. Cant luck into it.
  • Daddy: And
  • Daddy: Im in those leagues. Nobody wins a league im in by luck. They either had some kind of headstart or advantage. But talk smack if you want, if youve been in a league with me, you know wassup. Im bringing the hammer win lose or draw.
  • Daddy: Win a LIVE League. You beat me fair in square. Win NFL/NBA LIVE you not only beat me, you beat @jwalkerjr88 and my Son is even better than me. (Damn)
  • Daddy: And youve beaten the 30 best other guys i could get.
  • BayAreaBallers: yeah cann tell you this in nfl live u were not easy to beat
    Today at 03:31:51 PM
