Royals trade:
Addison Russell (Minors)
2014 10th Round pick

Red Sox Trade:
Dustin Pedroia $10M
Yu Darvish $18M $18M
Cash: $28M $18M

Royals accept this trade because we want to win now. Fully expecting Russell to be one of the best SS in baseball the next decade or so, it really hurts to lose him. But, Pedroia and Darvish should make me the favorite for the WS this year and Darvish will help me not drop off too much after this year. Gotta go for it when I have the chance.

Red Sox made this move for a multitude of reasons...

1. It obviously helps to bolster the team going forward with the addition of Russell and a 10th rd pick.

2.  Pedroia would no longer be a part of the organization going forward after this season

3.  Darvish has thrown a ton of pitches and I had to get the best value for him as possible before he appeared to be a 1 year rental and then his salary would probably go even higher.

4.  With the young arms that I have currently in the bigs and coming up this was a risk I was willing to take in order to land a future STUD bat at a premier position

I know I'm new to this and unsure of trade value here yet, but this looks horrible.
Pedroia and Darvish are short term I understand but Russell and the 10th pick would both have to reach their top ceiling to even come close to fair value and with Russell having injury questions and the 10th pick not even knowing who or what they are yet...it doesn't look promising.
This leaves about a 99% chance that the Royals would win the trade which makes it to me vetoable.

   this would be bad even if it was a salary dump, but sending all that cap cash with them??  talk about potentially shifting balance of power.

I never go back on things, but i have had quite a bit of time to do some research over past couple days and thia was a horrendous trade on my part....  finally getting this thing down a little bit
