Pirates / A's Trade

The Pirates trade pitcher Tony Watson ($505k) to the A's for pitcher Matt Capps ($3m) and pitcher Akeem Bostick (minors).  A's to confirm tomorrow.

Pirates make the trade to add a good young projectable righty to our organization in exchange for some cap space.  I wasn't sure he'd last to our 68th pick overall so we were looking to slide in somewhere.  I give up a player with 3 years of arbitration left and take on the $3million salary for Matt Capps.  Thanks to the A's for a quick negotiation.

If we are trying to follow MLB rules players can't be traded until a year after they sign following the draft.  Free agents also must wait until June 1st by our league rules.  This is my only reservation about this deal is that I think there should be a waiting period to trade drafted players.

Yes.  I think MILB players should have a one year NTC.

Maybe we should look at implementing that after this trade.  1 year is too much but I would think about making it the same as the FAs in June.

But, that being said it is just like trading the pick instead and we can do that.

Yes, the A's made the pick on my behalf.  The trade would not have been approved in time for me to make the pick.
