There is always a reason to have a discussion... Which is why I posed the question. I know the deal has been approved, but I am curious to see what you guys think is a fair deal for Mason.

I wouldn't have offered much more to be honest, I think that was the main reason for my approval. I've considered a move for him in many leagues and never went through with it. He reminds me of Raycroft, but in a good couple years then steady decline until another G pushes you out and you are a career back-up

I disagree because the deal can't be reversed and this will just turn into an argument.

Why trade a possible starting goalie for a player when you could sign a player in Free Agency without giving up anything? There are many LW's available.

I personally would not give much to get Mason as I have my goalies but if I had him I would want more in return. Most new GM's don't realize how important goaltenting is in this league.

i understand your point Tony and i agree to a certain level ... but with a cap space of 1.8m and 7 open spot on the roster i won t get a good LW for sure all teams will out bid me in the Free Agency

There is no need for this to turn into an agrument. I meant it more as a tool for us to evaluate what is value of Steve Mason with his current situation and what happens to his value if one of the announced things happens. It is ok I will now lock this thread as the deal has already passed.

Patrick Elias, $3.0m (2012-13)
4th Round

Dallas sends:
Steve Mason, $2.9m (2012-13)

Edmonton does this trade to land a goalie who can hopefully re-gain his Calder form or at very least not be as bad as last season. If he doesn't work out he is only on a 1 year contract so he can move many ways. Elias had a huge season this year and should have another good season along with Kovalchuk but I would rather take the chance with Mason then Elias with his age.
